Ocean heat content variability in an ensemble of twentieth century ocean reanalyses

Climate Dynamics, 2017
This paper presents a ten-member ensemble of twentieth century Ocean ReAnalyses called ORA-20C. ORA-20C assimilates temperature and salinity profiles and is forced by the ECMWF twentieth century atmospheric reanalysis (ERA-20C) over the 1900-2010 period.

Shallow ocean overturning and the heat and carbon content of the Glacial Tropical Ocean

Global and Planetary Change, 2009
Abstract Mechanisms affecting the heat and carbon content of the Glacial Tropical Ocean (21,000 years BP) remain controversial. Exchange with the deep ocean via vertical mixing and the overturning circulation is one aspect that is clearly relevant to greenhouse gas concentrations and future climate change. We examined evidence of the possible role of

Ocean Heat Content and Rising Sea Level

2012
Ocean heat is increasing, especially in the upper 700 m and sea level is rising worldwide. A worldwide rise in sea level is known as a eustatic sea level rise. Factors affecting climate are complex but El Nino and La Nina are well established. Together they form the ENSO, or El Nino (and La Nina) Southern Oscillation in the equatorial Pacific that ...

Pacific Ocean Heat Content During the Past 10,000 Years

Science, 2013
Deep Heating Global warming is popularly viewed only as an atmospheric process, when, as shown by marine temperature records covering the last several decades, most heat uptake occurs in the ocean. How did subsurface ocean temperatures vary during past warm and cold intervals? Rosenthal et
