Tunable‐Threshold UV Dosimetry With Programmable Luminescent Tags via Oxygen‐Mediated Room‐Temperature Phosphorescence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A fully organic UV threshold dosimeter is developed by exploiting the oxygen‐sensitive room‐temperature phosphorescence of a purely organic emitter in a polymer matrix. Upon reaching a specific cumulative UV dose, photochemical oxygen depletion triggers a sharp, high‐contrast emission.

Monitoring the Indian Summer Monsoon Evolution at the Granularity of the Indian Meteorological Sub-divisions using Remotely Sensed Rainfall Products

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
We make use of satellite-based rainfall products from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) to objectively define local onset and demise of the Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) at the spatial resolution ...

Direct Measurement of the Singlet Lifetime and Photoexcitation Behavior of the Boron Vacancy Center in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Negatively charged boron vacancy defects in hexagonal boron nitride promise near‐surface quantum sensing, but their internal spin transition rates are only partly understood. This work directly measures the defect's singlet‐state lifetime, 15(3) ns, using a nanosecond rise‐time dual‐pulse photoluminescence‐recovery method, and shows that high laser ...

Toward Accurate Coastal Ocean Prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Several major problems, namely, uncertain surface forcing function, unknown open boundary conditions (OBC), and pressure gradient error using the σ-acoordinate, affect the accuracy of coastal ocean prediction. At open lateral boundaries where the numerical grid ends, the fluid motion should be unrestricted.

Skillful Multiyear Prediction of the Kuroshio and Gulf Stream Jets and Eddy Activity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
The Kuroshio and Gulf Stream (GS), Northern Hemisphere warm ocean currents, have narrow bands of intense jets and vigorous eddies. While the importance of them in regulating physical and biological ocean systems and climate has been increasingly ...

Bayesian‐Optimized Dual‐Mode Luminescence‐Based Optical Thermometry Enabled by Negative Thermal Expansion in Lu2(MoO4)3:Yb–Er–Tm Phosphor

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A Bayesian optimization framework identifies the ideal composition for Lu2(MoO4)3:Yb–Er–Tm phosphors with minimal experimental trials. By leveraging the host's negative thermal expansion, the material achieves remarkable thermal quenching compensation.

A Coordinated Sea‐Ice Assimilation Scheme Jointly Using Sea‐Ice Concentration and Thickness Observations With a Coupled Climate Model

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
For jointly assimilating sea‐ice concentration (SIC) and sea‐ice thickness (SIT) observations into a global coupled climate system model consisting of sea‐ice component with multiple sea‐ice categories, we propose a new sea‐ice analysis update scheme in ...
