Letter of Interest: Ocean science with the Pacific Ocean Neutrino Experiment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The Pacific Ocean Neutrino Experiment (P-ONE) is a proposed cubic-kilometer scale neutrino telescope planned to be installed in the deep-sea of the north-east Pacific Ocean. In collaboration with the optical deep-sea data and communications network operated by Ocean Networks Canada, an international collaboration of researchers plans to install an ...

Ocean Sciences Award

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1990
The Ocean Science Award is given for “outstanding service to the marine science community. Service may include leadership, management, sharing of data, analysis techniques, or models, as well as facility or instrumentation development. In every case, the service must go well beyond the normal requirements of an individual's job.

The Cultural Heritage Framework Programme: Highlighting the Contribution of Marine Cultural Heritage to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030)

open access: yesOceans
This paper considers the importance of including Marine Cultural Heritage (MCH) in the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030) in order to fully address the challenges facing the health of our oceans.

Plasma‐activated media selectively induces apoptotic death via an orchestrated oxidative stress pathway in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
High‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) is the most common and aggressive type of ovarian cancer with urgent need for new treatment strategies. This study evaluates plasma‐activated media (PAM) as a novel treatment for HGSOC, showing its ability to selectively induce oxidative stress and apoptosis in HGSOC cell lines, patient ascites cells and primary

Near-real-time monitoring of global ocean carbon sink [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Mitigation of climate change will highly rely on a carbon emission trajectory that achieves carbon neutrality by the 2050s. The ocean plays a critical role in modulating climate change by sequestering CO2 from the atmosphere. Relying on the multidisciplinary cutting-edge methodologies and technologies, the near-real-time monitoring of global ocean ...

Modern Statistical Methods in Oceanography: A Hierarchical Perspective [PDF]

open access: yesStatistical Science 2013, Vol. 28, No. 4, 466-486, 2013
Processes in ocean physics, air-sea interaction and ocean biogeochemistry span enormous ranges in spatial and temporal scales, that is, from molecular to planetary and from seconds to millennia. Identifying and implementing sustainable human practices depend critically on our understandings of key aspects of ocean physics and ecology within these scale

Comparative activity of dimethyl fumarate derivative IDMF in three models relevant to multiple sclerosis and psoriasis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IDMF is a derivative of dimethyl fumarate (DMF) with a unique therapeutic potential at the intersection of psoriasis and multiple sclerosis. Here, we demonstrate that it compares favorably with DMF and its other derivatives, such as Diroximel, in the zebrafish, microglia, and lymphocyte models.

Ocean thinking the work of ocean sciences, scientists, and technologies in producing the sea as space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
How do scientists produce the ocean as space through their work and words? In this article, I examine how the techniques and tools of oceanographers constitute ocean science.
