Functional Sex Reversal in Adult Gonochoristic Teleosts is Mediated by Ovarian Germline Stem Cell Plasticity and Somatic Cell Transdifferentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oocytes play crucial roles in maintaining ovarian fate in adult gonochoristic fish. Targeted oocyte ablation with aromatase inhibition triggers the activation of surviving germline stem cells and the transdifferentiation of somatic cells from granoulosa/theca to Sertoli/Leydig lineages, inducing a complete and functional female‐to‐male sex reversal ...

Oceanic island biogeography through the lens of the General Dynamic Model: assessment and prospect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The general dynamic model of oceanic island biogeography (GDM) has added a new dimension to theoretical island biogeography in recognizing that geological processes are key drivers of the evolutionary processes of diversification and extinction within ...

Advancing Energy Efficiency in Smart Windows via Dual‐Responsive Electro‐Thermochromism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A durable and stable quasi‐solid‐state electro‐thermal dual‐responsive photothermal regulation device has been employed in advanced energy‐efficient smart windows. The devised device not only incorporates a thermochromic hydrogel characterized by high ionic conductivity, high optical transmittance, and a low LCST, but also comprises an electrochromic ...

High‐Power Hybrid Nanogenerator With Multi‐Degree‐of‐Freedom Mechanical Coupling for Harvesting Water Wave Energy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A high‐power hybrid nanogenerator (HP‐HNG) with multi‐degree‐of‐freedom mechanical coupling is reported, integrating multi‐directional wave energy for output to achieve 1 + 1 > 2 energy harvesting. The HP‐HNG achieves a peak output power of 0.764 W, corresponding to a peak power density of 127.303 W m−3. At a wave frequency of 1 Hz, the HP‐HNG delivers

Deep Learning‐Driven Discovery and Engineering of an Efficient PETase for Depolymerization and Detoxification of PET Microplastics Under Physiological Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A deep learning–driven pipeline mining 246 million protein sequences uncovers AhPETase, an evolutionarily distinct PET hydrolase. Engineered variant AhPETaseM1 degrades post‐consumer PET microplastics under physiological conditions and reverses microplasticinduced cytotoxicity in human lung and colon cells, establishing enzymatic microplastic ...

A compact high-order coupled time and space discretization to represent vertical transport in oceanic models

open access: yes, 2016
International audienceRecent papers by Shchepetkin (2015) and Lemarié et al. (2015) have emphasized that the time-step of an oceanic model with an Eulerian vertical coordinate and an explicit time-stepping scheme is very often restricted by vertical ...

Cavity‐Enhanced Eye‐Readable Detection of 0.1% H2 via Active Modulation of Charge‐Transfer Plasmons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cavity‐structured nanoparticle sensor is developed for highly sensitive, eye‐readable hydrogen detection. Its excellent colorimetric response arises from a hydrogen‐induced charge‐transfer mechanism: reduction of the dielectric oxide shell in H2 triggers a transition from the plasmonic gap mode to the charge‐transfer plasmon mode.

Modeling the Dynamic Global Distribution of the Ring Current Oxygen Ions Using Artificial Neural Network Technique

open access: yesSpace Weather
The ring current is an important component of the Earth's near‐space environment, as its variations are the direct driver of geomagnetic storms that can disrupt power grids, satellite communications, and navigation systems, thereby impacting a wide range
