Constraining the rate of oceanic deoxygenation leading up to a Cretaceous Oceanic Anoxic Event (OAE-2: ~94 Ma) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
: The rates of marine deoxygenation leading to Cretaceous Oceanic Anoxic Events are poorly recognized and constrained. If increases in primary productivity are the primary driver of these episodes, progressive oxygen loss from global waters should ...

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.

Large contrast in the vertical distribution of aerosol optical properties and radiative effects across the Indo-Gangetic Plain during the SWAAMI–RAWEX campaign [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2018
Measurements of the vertical profiles of the optical properties (namely the extinction coefficient and scattering and absorption coefficients respectively σext ∕ σscat ∕ σabs) of aerosols have been made across the Indo ...

Iron‐Mediated Release of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon From Waterlogged Peatland Under Warming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study conducts a five‐year in situ warming experiment in high‐altitude peatlands to examine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release. The study shows that warming promotes the release of plant‐derived modern DOC in drained peatlands, but amplifies aquatic export of century‐old DOC from waterlogged peatlands via Fe‐mediated DOC mobilization—a ...

The Cooperation of Marine Spatial Planning Between China and Countries Along the Silk Road Under the Background of 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road: motivations, challenges and paths

open access: yesHaiyang Kaifa yu guanli, 2022
Deepening the all-round cooperation between China and the countries along the Maritime Silk Road is an important driving force for the transformation of the Belt and Road Initiative to high-quality development. Strengthening cooperation in marine spatial

Frequency‐Dependent Responses of Plasmaspheric Hiss to the Impact of an Interplanetary Shock

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
Plasmaspheric hiss waves are essential for the pitch‐angle scattering and precipitation of energetic electrons and interplanetary shocks may affect these waves.

Molecular Editing Reveals a Bilobalide Chemotype that Attenuates Prolyl Endopeptidase (PREP)‐Linked Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Molecular editing of bilobalide uncovers BB56, a PREP‐engaging chemotype with enhanced anti‐inflammatory activity in microglia. Integrated CETSA‐MS, SAR, and pathway analyses link BB56 to attenuation of p38 MAPK/NF‐κB and NLRP3‐associated inflammatory signaling, highlighting bilobalide editing as a strategy for developing neuroinflammation‐modulating ...

Physical retrieval of sea-surface temperature from INSAT-3D imager observations

open access: yesTellus: Series A, Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 2019
This paper presents results of physical retrieval of sea-surface temperature (SST) from the INSAT-3D imager observations. Radiance measurements from two thermal infrared imager channels are used for retrieving SST.

Relativistic Microburst Scale Size Induced by a Single Point‐Source Chorus Element

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2022
Relativistic microbursts are impulsive, sub‐second precipitation bursts of relativistic electrons. They are one of the main loss mechanisms of outer radiation belt electrons, and are driven by chorus waves.

Vortex formation by unstable oceanic jets

open access: yes, 2002
In a two-layer quasi-geostrophic model, we investigate the mixed barotropic-baroclinic instability of a thin zonal jet. Given the jet velocity profile at the surface, the deformation radius and layer depths, the three parameters governing the instability
