Populations of ocelots (Leopardus pardalis) have declined during the past century due mainly to loss of habitat resulting in the ocelot being listed as endangered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. In southern Texas, the northern distribution of the ocelot overlaps the southern distribution of the bobcat (Lynx rufus). Because bobcats could

SURVIVAL AND SOURCES OF MORTALITY IN OCELOTS
Journal of Wildlife Management, 2005Abstract Survival and cause-specific mortality estimates are needed to develop effective conservation strategies for the endangered ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) in the United States. We radiomonitored 80 ocelots (36 F, 44 M) from 1983 to 2002 and analyzed survival and cause-specific mortality rates.

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1995We immobilized 10 ocelots (Felis pardalis), and 21 bobcats (F. rufus) in south Texas (USA) during March to November 1991 with a mixture of ketamine hydrochloride (KH) and xylazine hydrochloride (XH); two ocelots were immobilized twice. Species were immobilized with (mean +/- SE) 14.7 +/- 1.6 mg KH/kg body mass for ocelots, 13.3 +/- 1.8 mg KH/kg for ...

Intraspecific killing of a male ocelot
Mammalian Biology, 2011Raw data on the social behavior of secretive felids is often scant. A freshly killed ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) corpse was found at Brownsberg Nature Park, Suriname. The specimen incurred damage to the neck, skull, upper vertebrae, and scapula. These injuries are consistent with the hypothesis that it was killed by a conspecific, most likely during a ...
