Acidic dye wastewater treatment onto a marine macroalga, Nizamuddina zanardini (Phylum: Ochrophyta)
Chemical Engineering Journal, 2013Abstract Biosorption of Acid Black 1 (AB1) onto brown macroalgae, Nizamuddina zanardinii , was investigated. The effects of different parameters including pH, biomass loading, dye concentration, temperature, and salinity on the biosorption capacity were studies.

Abstract Macrocystis pyrifera gametophytes growing under controlled conditions produce juveniles with different numbers of fronds, i.e. few (≤ 2) or multiple fronds (≥ 3). We describe these morphotypes and test whether the number of fronds may impact juvenile growth by performing laboratory and field experiments.

Unlike the soft bottom meiofauna, meiofauna associated to hard substrata is poorly studied, despite its ecological relevance. Since communities of hard substrata are usually characterized by species with different life cycles and strategies from those of soft bottom assemblages, information on hard substrata meiofauna is still needed.

Abstract We have sequenced the 18S rRNA gene of the raphidophyte Heterosigma carterae (Hulburt) F.J.R. Taylor and have performed a detailed molecular phylogenetic analysis of heterokont algae. Maximum likelihood, maximum parsimony and two distance methods (Fitch and neighbor joining) all show that Heterosigma is specifically related to eustigmatophytes

The development of integrated multitrophic aquaculture (IMTA) systems in Spain has been rather limited so far. However, trials carried out in recent years at experimental and at small industrial scale have been very promising. One of the most encouraging experiences involves the development of seaweed farming for human consumption in combination with ...

Complex cell wall composition of Lobophora variegata (Ochrophyta) rich in sulfated polysaccharides (LvSPs) is few understood. In this study, LvSPs were sequentially extracted and compared on their yield and structural properties. Decumbent morphotype was digested with papain (3 or 24 h) and then LvSPs3h-1→4 or LvSPs24h-1→6 quantified and examined their
