Hypoglycaemic activity of Ocimum gratissimum in rats
Fitoterapia, 2000The hypoglycaemic effect of the methanolic extract of Ocimum gratissimum leaves was evaluated in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Intraperitoneal injection of the extract (400 mg/kg) significantly reduced plasma levels both in normal and diabetic rats by 56 and 68%, respectively.

The anthelmintic effects of the leaf extract of Ocimum gratissimum (L.)
Phytomedicine, 1998The leaf extract (F005) of Ocimum gratissimum was isolated by a bioassay-guided chromatographic separation technique using the brine shrimp lethality test assay. The effects of various concentrations (0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, and 8.0 mg/ml) of F005 were tested in vitro on infective larvae (L(3)) of Haemonchus contortus and Heligmosomoides polygyrus ...

Antidiarrhoeal effects of Ocimum gratissimum leaf extract in experimental animals
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 1999The aqueous extract of the leaves of Ocimum gratissimum was screened for antidiarrhoeal effects. The extract inhibited castor oil-induced diarrhoea in rats as judged by a decrease in the number of wet faeces in the extract-treated rats. In addition, the extract inhibited the propulsive movement of intestinal contents.
