Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Assessment and diagnosis: a rational approach

open access: yesCommunity Eye Health Journal, 2017
The ocular surface is critical to the health of the eye and essential for good visual functioning. It is a complex, integrated system involving the cornea, conjunctiva, tear film, lacrimal gland, nasolacrimal system and the eyelids (incorporating the ...

Imperceptible Gaze Guidance Through Ocularity in Virtual Reality [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We introduce to VR a novel imperceptible gaze guidance technique from a recent discovery that human gaze can be attracted to a cue that contrasts from the background in its perceptually non-distinctive ocularity, defined as the relative difference between inputs to the two eyes. This cue pops out in the saliency map in the primary visual cortex without

Diclofenac sodium ion exchange resin complex loaded melt cast films for sustained release ocular delivery

open access: yes, 2017
The goal of the present study is to develop polymeric matrix films loaded with a combination of free diclofenac sodium (DFSfree) and DFS:Ion exchange resin complexes (DFS:IR) for immediate and sustained release profiles, respectively.

An approach for coherent periodogram averaging of tilt‐series data for improved contrast transfer function estimation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The contrast transfer function (CTF) is an imaging aberration that is a major resolution‐limiting factor in cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Precise CTF estimation is key to overcoming this limitation, but is particularly challenging in cryo‐electron tomography (cryo‐ET) data. Here, we present an approach for using geometric information to assist in

Ocular Diseases Diagnosis in Fundus Images using a Deep Learning: Approaches, tools and Performance evaluation [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Real-Time Image Processing and Deep Learning, Apr 2019, Baltimore, Maryland, United States, 2019
Ocular pathology detection from fundus images presents an important challenge on health care. In fact, each pathology has different severity stages that may be deduced by verifying the existence of specific lesions. Each lesion is characterized by morphological features. Moreover, several lesions of different pathologies have similar features.
