Multidimensional OMICs reveal ARID1A orchestrated control of DNA damage, splicing, and cell cycle in normal‐like and malignant urothelial cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the frequently mutated chromatin remodeler ARID1A, a subunit of the SWI/SNF cBAF complex, results in less open chromatin, alternative splicing, and the failure to stop cells from progressing through the cell cycle after DNA damage in bladder (cancer) cells. Created in BioRender. Epigenetic regulators, such as the SWI/SNF complex, with important

Using Eye Tracker To Evaluate Cockpit Design -- A Flight Simulation Study [PDF]

open access: yesAviation 2022, 2021
This paper investigates applications of eye tracking in transport aircraft design evaluations. Piloted simulations were conducted for a complete flight profile including take off, cruise and landing flight scenario using the transport aircraft flight simulator at CSIR National Aerospace Laboratories.

Supervised machine learning based multi-task artificial intelligence classification of retinopathies [PDF]

open access: yeshttps://www.mdpi.com/2077-0383/8/6/872, 2019
Artificial intelligence (AI) classification holds promise as a novel and affordable screening tool for clinical management of ocular diseases. Rural and underserved areas, which suffer from lack of access to experienced ophthalmologists may particularly benefit from this technology.

Quantifying interactions between accommodation and vergence in a binocularly normal population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Stimulation of the accommodation system results in a response in the vergence system via accommodative vergence cross-link interactions, and stimulation of the vergence system results in an accommodation response via vergence accommodation cross-link ...

Germline variants in CDKN2A wild‐type melanoma prone families

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Among melanoma‐prone families, wild‐type for CDKN2A and CDK4, some have pathogenic variants in genes not usually linked to melanoma. Furthermore, rare XP‐related variants and variants in MC1R are enriched in such families. Germline pathogenic variants in CDKN2A are well established as an underlying cause of familial malignant melanoma. While pathogenic

CDNet: Contrastive Disentangled Network for Fine-Grained Image Categorization of Ocular B-Scan Ultrasound [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Precise and rapid categorization of images in the B-scan ultrasound modality is vital for diagnosing ocular diseases. Nevertheless, distinguishing various diseases in ultrasound still challenges experienced ophthalmologists. Thus a novel contrastive disentangled network (CDNet) is developed in this work, aiming to tackle the fine-grained image ...

High-Order Aberrations: A Key Factor in Accommodative Dysfunctions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study investigated the relationship between high-order aberrations (HOAs) and accommodative dysfunctions by analyzing their changes with accommodation.

Down syndrome: a review of ocular manifestations

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Ophthalmology, 2022
Down syndrome is the most common genetically mediated intellectual disability. Although many physiologic and pathologic features of Down syndrome are discussed at length in the literature, the ocular manifestations of Down syndrome have seldom been ...

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...
