The C‐terminal truncated splicing variant of NK1R negatively modulates substance P‐stimulated NK1R signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The neurokinin 1 receptor exists as full‐length (NK1L) and C‐terminally truncated (NK1S) splice variants. We show that NK1S heterodimerizes with NK1L, impairing Gαq coupling and Ca2+ mobilization while enhancing β‐arrestin1 recruitment. NK1S suppresses substance P‐driven gene expression and cell migration, revealing NK1S as an endogenous biased ...

Global burden and cross-country inequalities of age-related eye diseases from 1990 to 2021: a comprehensive analysis of temporal trends and socioeconomic disparities

open access: yesEye and Vision
Background Age-related eye diseases (AREDs) are leading causes of visual impairment worldwide. With global population aging, understanding their epidemiological trends and socioeconomic disparities is crucial for public health planning and equitable ...

Genetic dissection of human ABCE1 in yeast reveals separable requirements for ribosome recycling and suppression of aberrant reinitiation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human ABCE1 cannot functionally replace its yeast ortholog. Yeast–human chimera analysis identified NBD1 as a major interspecies barrier. Genetic screening yielded hABCE1 revertants that rescue yeast viability but fail to suppress aberrant translation reinitiation in the 3′ UTR.

Ocular Manifestations of Selected Systemic Diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Systemic diseases can present ocular manifestations. In some cases, the ocular lesions are present along with other generalized lesions characteristic of the disease. In a few cases, however, only ocular lesions are present.

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.

Machine learning prediction models for visual impairment in Chinese adults aged ≥ 45 years with cardiovascular metabolic diseases: a population-based study using CHARLS

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology
Background There has been a growing prevalence of cardiovascular metabolic diseases (CMD) in adults aged ≥ 45 years, and vision impairment (VI) is highly prevalent in this population.

RNA Sequencing Resolves Cryptic Pathogenic Variants in Mitochondrial Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial diseases are the most common inherited metabolic disorders, characterized by pronounced clinical and genetic heterogeneity that complicates molecular diagnosis. Although DNA‐based sequencing approaches have become standard in genetic testing, up to half of patients remain without a definitive diagnosis.

Use of intravitreal antiviral injection during vitrectomy in the treatment of acute retinal necrosis: anatomic and visual outcomes

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology
Purpose To investigate whether intravitreal antiviral injection (IAI) during vitrectomy reduces the postsurgical retinal detachment (RD) rate and improves the visual prognosis of patients with acute retinal necrosis (ARN).
