Machine Learning‐Based Identification of Children With Intermittent Exotropia Using Multiple Resting‐State Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Features

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2025.
The machine learning methods combined with resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging parameters (ALFF, slow‐5 fALFF, and ReHo) had good classification performance in distinguishing intermittent exotropia (IXT) children from healthy controls (HCs). Among several parameters, the slow‐5 fALFF showed the best classification performance.

Clinical insights on Tolosa Hunt syndrome: a multidisciplinary approach on neurological-related symptomatology in maxillofacial region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background Tolosa–Hunt syndrome (THS) related neurological symptoms are described in literature as “unilateral”, “recurrent”, “episodic”, “intense”, “severe”, “lancinating” or “stabbing” pain on the upper face and forehead and may be misdiagnosed ...

Veterans Traumatic Brain Injuries and Neurosurgical Challenges: A Narrative Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Veterans experience a high prevalence of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) due to combat‐related incidents such as explosive blasts, penetrating injuries, and blunt force trauma. These military TBIs are often more complex than civilian TBIs, leading to increased long‐term neurological consequences.

Automated Process Incorporating Machine Learning Segmentation and Correlation of Oral Diseases with Systemic Health [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Imaging fluorescent disease biomarkers in tissues and skin is a non-invasive method to screen for health conditions. We report an automated process that combines intraoral fluorescent porphyrin biomarker imaging, clinical examinations and machine learning for correlation of systemic health conditions with periodontal disease. 1215 intraoral fluorescent

Antidopaminergic Medications and Clinical Changes in Measures of Huntington's Disease: A Causal Analysis

open access: yesMovement Disorders, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 928-937, May 2025.
Abstract Background Antidopaminergic medications (ADM) are often used for symptom management of Huntington's disease (HD). Evidence from past research suggests that ADMs are associated with worse clinical outcomes in HD, but their impact on various domains remains underexplored.

Optic Disc and Cup Segmentation Methods for Glaucoma Detection with Modification of U-Net Convolutional Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness all over the world, with approximately 60 million cases reported worldwide in 2010. If undiagnosed in time, glaucoma causes irreversible damage to the optic nerve leading to blindness. The optic nerve head examination, which involves measurement of cup-to-disc ratio, is considered one of the most ...

All hands on deck: The multidisciplinary rehabilitation assessment and management of hand function in persons with neuromuscular disorders

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, Volume 71, Issue 5, Page 869-888, May 2025.
Abstract Hand function is important in every aspect of our lives. Across a wide range of neuromuscular disorders—inherited ataxias, motor neuron diseases, polyneuropathies, and myopathies—people can experience losses in hand strength, tone, movement, dexterity, joint range, and sensation.

Clinical and Radiological Advances in Autoimmune GFAP Astrocytopathy: Analysis of 387 Patients in Japan

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Neuroimmunology, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 174-187, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Autoimmune glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) astrocytopathy (GFAP‐A) is an autoimmune inflammatory central nervous system disease. Recent neuropathological findings indicate that GFAP‐specific cluster of differentiation (CD)8+ T cells are likely the effectors of GFAP‐A.

Application of zebrafish oculomotor behavior to model human disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
To ensure high acuity vision, eye movements have to be controlled with astonishing precision by the oculomotor system. Many human diseases can lead to abnormal eye movements, typically of the involuntary oscillatory eye movements type called nystagmus ...
