Odontogenic Cysts

Oral examination often reveals the presence of gingival or mucosal swelling. This swelling may be exostosis, cystic, hyperplastic or neoplastic tissue. This case report describes a diagnosis and surgical treatment of an odontogenic cyst. Odontogenic cysts can be classified depending on the stage in odontogenesis when cyst formation occurs.

Botryoid odontogenic cyst

Three previously unreported cases of botryoid odontogenic cyst, one of which recurred 9 years after initial surgical removal, are presented. The botryoid odontogenic cyst has a predilection for occurrence in the mandibular canine-premolar region and in persons over the age of 50 years. Recurrent calcifying odontogenic cyst

This article reports a recurrence of a calcifying odontogenic cyst which occurred 5 years after the initial treatment. To date all recurrences of calcifying odontogenic cysts have been in elderly persons. The present recurrence was in an 11-year-old girl.
