Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1978A patient with platybasia of the skull and temporomandibular joint ankylosis is presented. Relief of brain stem compression by the impingement of the odontoid through a soft, hypoplastic clivus was done by first doing a mandibular condylectomy to open the mouth. A transoral‐transpharyngeal route was then employed to excise the odontoid process.

Odontoid process dysplasia in a dog
Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1980ABSTRACTA six‐and‐a‐half year old spayed female Sheltie was referred to The Animal Medical Center with upper motor neurone signs to the four limbs. Radiographic and myelographic examinations were not significant. Postmortem examination revealed that dysplasia of the dens caused compression of the spinal cord.

Treatment in Fractures of the Odontoid Process
Spine, 1988Fifty-eight cases of odontoid fractures treated at Keio University Hospital and affiliate hospitals from 1965 through 1985 were reviewed. Six patients under age 7 years (group A), were characterized as having epiphysiolysis. Among 52 patients over 8 years of age (group B), there were two Type I, 31 Type II and 19 Type III fractures.
