Judgement of Odor Intensity is Influenced by Subjects' Knowledge of the Odor Source [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Senses, 2001
Odor perception, including intensity, is affected by knowledge of odor source. For 76 subjects tested with 24 everyday odorants, ratings of intensity, pleasantness and familiarity were enhanced when subjects either could identify the odor source themselves or were provided with the name by the experimenter.

Segregation of odor identity and intensity during odor discrimination in Drosophila mushroom body.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2007
Molecular and cellular studies have begun to unravel a neurobiological basis of olfactory processing, which appears conserved among vertebrate and invertebrate species.

Body odor disgust sensitivity (BODS) is related to extreme odor valence perception.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Odors are important disease cues, and disgust sensitivity to body odors reflects individual differences in disease avoidance. The body odor disgust sensitivity (BODS) scale provides a rapid and valid assessment of individual differences.

An Odor Interaction Model of Binary Odorant Mixtures by a Partial Differential Equation Method

open access: yesSensors, 2014
A novel odor interaction model was proposed for binary mixtures of benzene and substituted benzenes by a partial differential equation (PDE) method. Based on the measurement method (tangent-intercept method) of partial molar volume, original parameters ...

Annual Sexual Behavior in Boer Bucks Located in the Guerrero Tropics in Mexico

open access: yesRuminants, 2023
The aim of this study was to evaluate the intensity of the annual sexual behavior (SB) of Boer bucks under tropical conditions in southern Mexico. For one year, 16 extensively grazing males were evaluated for SB individually with estrogenized goats. From

Determining the Relationship between Aroma and Quality of Bao-Chung Tea by Solid-Phase Microextraction (SPME) and Electronic Nose Analyses

open access: yesHorticulturae, 2023
Despite extensive studies, the relationship between the quality/quantity of tea odorants and oolong tea quality remains unclear. To investigate the key components affecting Bao-chung tea quality, we collected samples of different grades from a tea ...

Effects of odor intensity correction using n-Butanol on odor intensity perception change for three different odorants

open access: yesJournal of Odor and Indoor Environment, 2020
n-Butanol is used to assess how odor intensity correction affects judges’ evaluation of the odor intensity based on the concentration. The odor intensity correction effect is verified by using three types of test solutions which are used for the selection of judges based on their concentration levels.

Food Neophobia, Odor and Taste Sensitivity, and Overall Flavor Perception in Food

open access: yesFoods, 2021
Smell, which allows us to gather information about the hedonic value of an odor, is affected by many factors. This study aimed to assess the relationship among individual factors, odor sensitivity, and enjoyment, and to evaluate how overall flavor ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
