Abstract The decisive reinforcement of thick concrete members is often determined by the minimum reinforcement for crack control due to restraint stresses. In contrast to the heuristic design model in Eurocode 2, a mechanically sound methodology is only provided if the deformation compatibility is considered.

This work introduces a beamforming‐based method to generate acoustic images from fiber‐optic distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) data. By performing 2D scanning around the sensing fiber, the approach enables near‐field imaging and localization of acoustic sources, even in regions distant from the fiber. A data‐driven DAS channel selection improves image

Numerical and Experimental Methods for Estimating the Propagation Loss in Microphotonic Waveguides
Finite‐element finite‐difference time domain, eigenmode‐expansion, and volume‐current simulations are benchmarked against cut‐back, ring‐resonator, and OFDR measurements to quantify waveguide propagation loss in integrated photonic circuits. Scattering, absorption, leakage, and back‐reflection contributions are dissected; error sources are ranked; and ...

Tightly‐Confined and Long Z‐Cut Lithium Niobate Waveguide with Ultralow‐Loss
A z‐cut lithium niobate waveguide is demonstrated with ultra‐low loss of 5.8 dB/m in a decimeter‐long LN spiral waveguide. This study is focused on Z‐cut LN waveguides with TE mode to avoid the material birefringence. Utilizing the third order nonlinearity, it is demonstrated that the first all‐normal‐dispersion coherent supercontinuum frequency comb ...

This work pioneers a 5.7 MHz all−fiber mode−locked laser−based broadband swept−source OCT system, achieving record−breaking performance: 11.4 µm axial resolution and 119 mm detection range. The system demonstrates exceptional coherence and stability, overcoming traditional trade−off between imaging speed and detection range.

Deformation monitoring at shield tunnel joints: Laboratory test and discrete element simulation
The optical frequency domain reflectometry technique is applied in laboratory tests to monitor the shear process and center settlement process of shield tunnel segments. Two kinds of quantitative calculation methods are put forward, and the discrete element numerical analysis method is utilized to verify these two methods.

Abstract Vibration‐based approaches to structural health monitoring (SHM) gained increasing significance for assessing the behaviour of existing structures because of their non‐intrusive nature and high sensitivity to damage. However, data availability often limits the application of SHM approaches.

With the advantages of high inherent safety, simple design, and small volume, the heat pipe reactor (HPR) is considered one of the nuclear power systems suitable for the distributed electricity generation market. The HPR transfers heat generated from the reactor core through heat pipes to an intermediate heat exchanger (IHX) connected to power ...
