Abstract Background Obesity is a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet an ‘obesity paradox’ has been observed in various CVD contexts. The impact of obesity on heart failure (HF) patients treated with a wearable cardioverter‐defibrillator (WCD) remains underexplored.

Does off-pump coronary revascularization confer superior organ protection in re-operative coronary artery surgery? A meta-analysis of observational studies [PDF]
Off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery (OPCAB) has been hypothesised to be beneficial in the high-risk patient population undergoing re-operative coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).

Abstract Aims Mortality in cardiogenic shock (CS) remains elevated, with the potential for CS causes to impact prognosis and risk stratification. The aim was to investigate in‐hospital prognosis and mortality in CS patients according to aetiology. We also assessed the prognostic accuracy of CardShock and IABP‐SHOCK II scores.

Comparison of the Plasma Metabolome Profiles Between the Internal Thoracic Artery and Ascending Aorta in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Using Gas Chromatography Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry. [PDF]
BackgroundThe left internal thoracic artery (LITA) has been used as the first conduit of choice in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) because of excellent long-term patency and outcomes.

Modified Sleep Apnea Severity Index and Cardiovascular Risk in CPAP‐Intolerant OSA Patients
The modified sleep apnea severity index (mSASI) combines patient anatomy, weight, sleep study metrics, and symptoms into a composite OSA index ranging from 1 (least severe) to 3 (most severe). Our study found that mSASI correlated better with baseline cardiovascular risk measured by the 5‐year Framingham Risk Score compared to the AHI.
