Multi-person selection of the best wind turbine based on the multi-criteria integrated additive-multiplicative utility function

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2014
Energy generation and savings is a vital problem for the social and economic development of a modern world. The construction of wind farms is a challenge of crucial importance to Lithuania. Offshore wind farms are one of the possibilities of the multiple

Description of large, well‐preserved Enchodus specimens from the Bearpaw Formation of Alberta, Canada

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Fishes of the genus Enchodus were abundant and cosmopolitan in the Late Cretaceous, but are primarily known from isolated remains in Canada. Four well‐preserved fish skulls were recovered in recent years from ammolite mines sampling the Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta, and are here referred to Enchodus petrosus Cope, 1874.

Fine-scale proximity to offshore wind turbine foundations increases biomass of demersal fish species

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Offshore wind turbine fixed-bottom foundations provide artificial hard substrate through the water column that encourages marine flora and fauna to colonise and aggregate around the introduced structures, a well-documented phenomenon known as the ...

Investment Evaluation and Partnership Selection Model in the Offshore Wind Power Underwater Foundations Industry

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
With a plan to achieve a target of 5.7 GW offshore wind power capacity in 2025, Taiwan anticipates building a 36-billion USD industry, which makes Taiwan a center of attention in the global marketplace of civil engineering construction. Aimed at Taiwan’s

Epidemiological Survey and Genomic Insights Into Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 Transmission in the Blood Clam Anadara broughtonii in China (2019–2025)

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Seven‐year surveillance reveals a cold‐adapted OsHV‐1 lineage in blood clams, with disease onset at 13°C—3–5°C lower than in oysters—and identifies asymptomatic carriers and facility effluent as key transmission routes. ABSTRACT Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV‐1) poses a major threat to bivalve aquaculture, but its impact on blood clams (Anadara ...

Centrifuge modelling of offshore monopile foundation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Today one of the most used concepts for wind turbine foundation is the monopile. The foundation concepts for these monopiles on deeper water is uncertain and consequently the design needs to be conservative leading to uneconomic designs. This paper describes a total number of 6 static and 5 cyclic centrifuge tests on a laterally loaded monopile in dry ...

Numerical Analysis of Critical Embedment Depth of Offshore Monopile Foundations in Clay

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The design of offshore monopile foundations typically follows an iterative process aimed at optimizing key geometric parameters—namely, pile diameter, wall thickness, and embedded length.

Scanning Parametric Sediment Echosounder as Tool for Underwater Archaeological Prospection

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Underwater cultural heritage 3D prospection techniques, especially for remains that are partly buried in the ground, are only very rarely available and often can only be applied with considerable technical effort. To overcome this limitation, we evaluate a methodological adaption of widely used and available single channel parametric sediment ...

How wildlife respond to tropical cyclones: short‐term tactics and long‐term impacts

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT From butterflies to lizards and from sharks to seabirds, wildlife exhibit tactics to survive the impacts of tropical cyclones, also known as hurricanes, cyclones, or typhoons depending on where they occur. Some species seek refuge during the storm by moving, some remain in place and ride it out, and others move longer distances, avoiding the ...

Evidence for adaptive explanations of semelparity in animals

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Semelparity, the reproductive strategy of reproducing once, is widespread but uncommon in animals. Classes of models to explain the evolution of semelparity are based either on age structure and mortality schedules – demographic models in which high post‐reproductive mortality risk favours high reproductive effort and semelparity results from ...
