Airborne sound propagation over sea during offshore wind farm piling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Offshore piling for wind farm construction has attracted a lot of attention in recent years due to the extremely high noise emission levels associated with such operations.

The Explicit Wake Parametrisation V1.0: a wind farm parametrisation in the mesoscale model WRF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We describe the theoretical basis, implementation, and validation of a new parametrisation that accounts for the effect of large offshore wind farms on the atmosphere and can be used in mesoscale and large-scale atmospheric models.

Multifactorial Screening for Fine‐Scale Selection of CCS Industrial Clusters and Hubs in Brazil

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As Brazil moves toward implementing its decarbonization commitments, carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs are emerging as a key pathway for large‐scale CO2 abatement in hard‐to‐abate sectors. This paper presents a multifactorial, data‐driven framework to screen and prioritize potential CCS industrial clusters and hubs across Brazilian regions,

Advancing Environmental Sustainability Through Wind Energy, Green Technology, and Fintech: A Quantile Perspective From Germany's Low‐Carbon Transition

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
The current study examines the role of Fintech, wind energy, and green technology in determining environmental suitability in Germany from 2000 to 2024. The study employs time series econometric methods to estimate the QQR and QR techniques. The positive effects of wind production, FinTech, Natural Resources and green technology on environmental ...

Field Studies on the Influence of High‐Voltage Direct Transmission Underground Cables on Soils Along the SuedLink Route in Southwest Germany

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
During regular operation of the SuedLink at a load ≤75 %, the average increase in temperature in the plowing horizon is expected to be less than 1.6°C in the soils along the route in Southwest Germany. ABSTRACT Background The SuedLink was planned as a high‐voltage direct‐current underground cable route. The construction itself is a massive intervention

Accessing offshore wind turbines for maintenance : calculating access probabilities, expected delays and the associated costs using a probabilistic approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
There are ambitious plans in place for the expansion of offshore wind-power capacity in the EU and elsewhere. However, the cost of energy from offshore wind is much higher than that from land-based generation and anything between 15% and 30% of this cost

Elasmobranchs in offshore wind farms

open access: yesOcean & Coastal Management
The development of offshore wind farms (OWFs) in coastal seas presents both risks and opportunities for threatened elasmobranch populations, but their actual influence on elasmobranch presence and habitat use remains unclear. As more OWFs are planned, the lack of available space puts pressure on stakeholders to create multi-use areas as demands from ...

Application of Electrical Resistance Probes for Corrosion Monitoring and Cathodic Protection Assessment of Offshore Structures

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
A novel thick‐track electrical resistance probe with five sensing tracks was developed for offshore corrosion monitoring. The probe provides reliable, real‐time corrosion‐rate measurements in natural seawater. Corrosion‐rate trends showed strong agreement with weight‐loss coupon measurements.
