Dynamic Barite Sag in Oil Based Drilling Fluids

Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy Review, 2000
Abstract A rheological technique is described which utilises flat parallel plate geometry. The technique is sensitive enough to pick up the effect of syneresis and resulting movement of denser materials from the surface layers into the bulk of the drilling mud samples over time.

Smart Pickering water-in-oil emulsion by manipulating interactions between nanoparticles and surfactant as potential oil-based drilling fluid

, 2020
Smart Pickering emulsions show great promise for many applications in the oil and gas industry, especially those with pH-responsive behavior that allows them to be easily implemented.

Investigation of Eccentricity on Cuttings Transport With Oil-Based Drilling Fluids

Volume 10: Petroleum Technology, 2022
Abstract Deviated well sections are common in modern well construction. In mature areas like the North Sea region, practically all producers or injector wells will have highly deviated sections. These wells must be drilled and completed in an optimal manner with respect to drill time, cost, risk and functionality. Most cuttings transport

Sag of Weight Materials in Oil Based Drilling Fluids

Proceedings of IADC/SPE Asia Pacific Drilling Technology, 2002
Abstract To be able to keep a well under control during drilling it is important to have the weight material suspended during the whole operation. Especially in oil based, or synthetic based drilling fluids, controlling sag is difficult.

Anaerobic Biodegradability of Oil Base Fluid For Invert Emulsion Drilling Fluid.

Proceedings of IADC/SPE Drilling Conference, 1998
Abstract Environmental legislations restrict the use of oil based muds, specially in North Sea and their discharge under the form of oily cuttings. Different synthetic based muds (SBM) are proposed for replacing gas oil as the base fluid.

Drilling and Gravel Packing with an Oil Base Fluid System

Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1969
Formation damage usually is attributable to fluid systems that contain clay or significant amounts of water. Field experience, as well as laboratory studies, indicates that this damage can be avoided through the use of an oil-asphalt fluid system for drilling, completing, and gravel packing. Introduction

Development of environment-friendly oil-in-water emulsion based drilling fluid for shale gas formation using sunflower oil

, 2020
Mineral oils are frequently used for the making of synthetic-based drilling fluids. However, there are several downsides associated with these oils.

Comparison of Rheological Properties of Oil-Based and KCl Drilling Fluids

SPE Bergen One Day Seminar, 2016
Abstract One of the main tasks of drilling fluids is to transport cuttings to the surface to clean the borehole. During this process the fluid is exposed to different flow regimes, shear rates and temperatures. The fluid properties affect the flow behavior, where viscosity, density and gel strength are among the key parameters.
