Starch/PVA hydrogels for oil/water separation

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2019
PVA polymers have been well-known as water-absorbing materials but their brittle nature hinders their applicability. In this study, we enhanced the strength of hydrogel and its water-absorbing capabilities by glutaraldehyde-assisted crosslinking of starch with PVA and blending BMIM-BF4 to enhance the plasticity and generate porosity within the hydrogel

Enhanced Oil-Water Separation-The Performax Coalescer

Proceedings of SPE Production Operations Symposium, 1983
ABSTRACT The Freewater Knockout (FWKO) has been the basic oil field standard in oil-water separation for many years; The PerformaxR Matrix Plate Coalescer is an improved enhanced oil-water separator which satisfies the oil producers' desire for a simple, efficient separator. Sizing and case history information is reviewed.

Modification of a Centrifugal Separator for In-Well Oil-Water Separation

Separation Science and Technology, 2005
Abstract A liquid–liquid centrifugal separator has been modified for possible application as a downhole method for separating crude oil from produced water. Centrifugal separators of various sizes (from 2‐ to 25‐cm rotor diameter) have been built and operated over the past decades at various U.S. Department of Energy facilities.

A Study of Oil/Water Separation in Corrugated Plate Separators

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1979
Simplified trajectory calculations and small scale experiments suggest that the mechanisms of oil separation in corrugated plates are similar to those of other plate separators and that the radius of curvature is not an important design parameter. Bouyancy force and flow fields control oil drop rise, while drop-interface coalescence should be important

Investigation of a Centrifugal Separator for In-Well Oil Water Separation

Petroleum Science and Technology, 2004
Abstract A liquid–liquid centrifuge has been tested for possible application as a downhole method for separating crude oil from produced water. Centrifugal separators of various sizes (from 2- to 25-cm rotor diameter) have been built and operated over the past three decades at various US Department of Energy facilities.

Control of Compact Separators for Oil-Water Separation

Volume 2: Multiphase Flows Applications; Fluids Applications; Microfluidics; Fluids Mechanics Fundamentals; Fluids Engineering Education
Abstract The petroleum industry in the U.S. generates over 24 billion barrels of produced water annually, making it the largest volume of unwanted byproduct associated with oil and gas production. This volume is approximately 70 times greater than that of all liquid hazardous wastes generated in the U.S.

Oil/water separation: Suparator meets the oil/water challenge

Filtration + Separation, 2013
While oil floats on water, achieving good separation and a high quality water stream is difficult. Louis van Schie explains how the Suparator oil separator is designed to carry out this exacting process.

New advanced solids/oil/water separator

Environmental Progress, 1994
AbstractACS Industries, Inc. recently commercialized proprietary advanced oil/water separation technology which separates heavy oils (up to 50,000 centistokes). The separation efficiency of ACS' unit is exceptional (down to less than 2 mg/l oil in water in field trials).
