Yield instability of winter oilseed rape modulated by early winter temperature

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Yield stability is a major problem in oilseed rape with inter-annual variation accounting for between 30–50% of the crop value among the major global rapeseed producers.

Glucosinolate hydrolysis products suppress entomopathogenic nematodes in vitro but do not protect sequestering flea beetle larvae in vivo

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The flea beetle's glucosinolate‐based chemical defense fails to protect larvae from nematode infection. However, the defense inhibits the nematode's symbiotic bacteria, thereby potentially impairing nematode reproduction and biocontrol success. Abstract BACKGROUND The efficacy of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) in the biological control of insect ...

Competitive effects of volunteer oilseed rape in wheat depending on the weed density

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2012
Weeds are a major factor for yield losses in crop production. They compete with the crop for limiting factors such as space, nutrients, water and light. Crop plants themselves can occur as weeds in crop rotations (e.g. oilseed rape).

Yield effect of applying earthworm castings produced during the oilseed rape-growing season in rice-oilseed rape cropping fields to rice

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
In-field earthworm density can be increased by planting oilseed rape during the non-rice growing season as compared to maintaining the rice-growing fields in fallow.

Mapping Above-Ground Biomass of Winter Oilseed Rape Using High Spatial Resolution Satellite Data at Parcel Scale under Waterlogging Conditions

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
Oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) is one of the three most important oil crops in China, and is regarded as a drought-tolerant oilseed crop. However, it is commonly sensitive to waterlogging, which usually refers to an adverse environment that limits crop

SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, restores pyrethroid efficacy against cabbage stem flea beetle but negatively impacts its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, inhibited key metabolic pathways associated with pyrethroid insecticide resistance in cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) and its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae. SYN‐A restored pyrethroid efficacy against resistant CSFB allowing up to 80% reduction in application rates.

Comparison of morphological traits, productivity and canopy architecture of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) and white mustard (Sinapis alba L.)

open access: yesJournal of Applied Botany and Food Quality, 2012
In the years 2006-2008, comparative studies of productivity and plant architecture of open pollinated winter oilseed rape cv. NK Petrol and white mustard cv. Nakielska were undertaken.

Field investigation of glucosinolates and morphological traits in mitigating Psylliodes chrysocephala larval infestation through crop varieties and companion planting

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Genotype and cropping system influenced oilseed rape ecophysiological traits, including glucosinolate compounds (glucoraphanin, glucobrassicanapin, and butyl‐glucosinolates) and biomass, which were linked to Psylliodes chrysocephala larval infestation, with varietal effects stronger than faba bean companion planting.

Combining UAV-Based Vegetation Indices and Image Classification to Estimate Flower Number in Oilseed Rape

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Remote estimation of flower number in oilseed rape under different nitrogen (N) treatments is imperative in precision agriculture and field remote sensing, which can help to predict the yield of oilseed rape.

Synthetic polymer nanocarrier enhances dsRNA stability but not RNAi efficacy in Brassicogethes aeneus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Experimental setup for dsRNA feeding in Brassicogethes aeneus to evaluate the effect of a synthetic polymer nanocarrier on RNAi efficiency. The experiment assessed whether the nanocarrier enhances RNAi after oral dsRNA delivery. (a) Stability of dsRNA–nanocarrier complexes was tested in simulated gut conditions. (b) Gene expression of αCOP and dre4 was
