Variability of sea ice in the Okhotsk Sea

Proceedings of IGARSS '93 - IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002
Sea ice in the Sea of Okhotsk is constrained by land and by season. No sea ice survives summer. The total areal extent of sea ice in winter varies interannually from approximately 1.5/spl times/10/sup 6/ km/sup 2/ to 0.8/spl times/10/sup 6/ km/sup 2/. Some results are discussed on the interannual variability of sea ice extent in the Okhotsk Sea and the

Tides in the Sea of Okhotsk

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1998
Eight major tidal constituents in the Sea of Okhotsk have been investigated using a numerical solution of tidal equations on a 59 space grid. The tides are dominated by the diurnal constituents. Diurnal tidal currents are enhanced in Shelikhov Bay and Penzhinskaya Guba, at Kashevarov Bank, in proximity to the Kuril Islands and at a few smaller ...

The tectonics of the Okhotsk Sea

Marine Geology, 1982
Abstract The northern and central parts of the Okhotsk Sea form an epiMesozoic platform. The hetero-aged acoustic basement is represented by deformed geosynclinal rocks from Cretaceous to Precambrian in age. The slightly deformed sedimentary cover levelled the uneven surface of the acoustic basement, and this Upper Paleogene—Neogene cover filled up ...

Deep-sea amphipod fauna of the Sea of Okhotsk

Progress in Oceanography, 2019
Abstract During joint Russian-German SokhoBio expedition held in 2015, the deepest area of the Sea of Okhotsk (Kuril Basin), the Bussol Strait and the western abyssal slope of the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench were investigated using camera epibenthic sledge. In total, 19 stations ranged between 1696 and 4798 m depth were sampled.

A Greenland Fish in the Okhotsk Sea

Copeia, 1935
Fig. 1. Spines in the anal fin of Eumesogrammus In studying at the present time the fishes of the Okhotsk and Bering seas, collected by expeditions of the Pacific Scientific Institute of Fisheries (Vladivostok) in 1932, we have discovered that the distribution of Ernogrammus storoski reaches to the Bering Strait, and have presumed that this fish may ...

Ferromanganese crusts from the Sea of Okhotsk

Oceanology, 2012
New data on the microstructures and the mineral and chemical compositions of ferromanganese crusts obtained from the western slope of the Kuril Island Arc in the Sea of Okhotsk during cruises of the R/V Vulkanolog are discussed. The study of the crusts using analytical electron microscopy methods revealed that their manganese phase is represented by ...

Petroleum Systems in the Okhotsk Sea Region

Proceedings, 2012
Research targets are the largest basins of the Okhotsk Sea region (Northern and Western Sakhalin, Northern Okhotsk and Western Kamchatka). The data on composition, petrophysical and geochemical properties of borehole sections’ rocks, seismic survey (CDP technique) were analyzed.

Granitoid magmatism of the Japan and Okhotsk seas

Petrology, 2016
This paper presents a study of Middle Paleozoic, Late Paleozoic, Early Cretaceous, and Early—Late Cretaceous granitoid complexes from two Pacific marginal seas. The granitoid complexes are subdivided into two large groups: (1) mantle-crust derivatives, including andesite differentiates, and (2) crustal palingenetic granites. In terms of formation depth,
