A survey of persons who are more than 95 years old however finds that their physical condition is often better than that of others 20 years their junior. Mechanisms of Ageing and Development, 2005
Our previous work revealed that 88% of centenarians delay or escape the age-related lethal diseases cardiac disease, stroke and diabetes. In the cases of those having a history of cancer we have observed anecdotes of centenarians presenting with large primary tumors that would have otherwise been expected to have metastasized and to have been lethal ...

With the emerging population of the oldest-old (those ages 85 and older), it is crucial to understand and prepare for their psychosocial needs. Worry is linked to psychological well-being and physical health, but little is known about the oldest-old's everyday worries. Ability, Disability, and the Oldest Old
Journal of Aging & Social Policy, 1997A measure of range of ability is used to profile the 85-years-old-and-older (oldest old) population, including the highly disabled institutional population. This new measure uses two new questions available in the 1990 Decennial Census concerning a self-care limitation and a mobility limitation as well as the usual question concerning a work limitation.

Renal reserve in the oldest old
International Urology and Nephrology, 2010Decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is one of several changes in renal physiology in the elderly. Renal reserve (RR) is the kidney's capacity to increase its basal GFR by at least 20% after a protein overload. Even though it has already been reported that RR is preserved in healthy old people, there is no information whether RR is also ...
