Uncovering the Key Factors Influencing Phytochemical and Phytopharmacological Properties During Medicinal Plant Processing

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
From farm to pharma, this review details the engineering of quality in medicinal plants through a science‐driven approach: it first elucidates how genetic and environmental factors inscribe the plant's phytochemical and phytopharmacological profile before harvest, and then dissects the postharvest techniques and technologies—chemical and thermal pre ...

Cardenolide‐Engineered Extracellular Vesicles Augment Drug Uptake and Cytotoxicity in Non‐small Cell Lung Cancer Cells

open access: yesSmall Methods, Volume 10, Issue 3, 9 February 2026.
Cardenolide‐functionalized extracellular vesicles enable targeted delivery of the chemotherapeutic doxorubicin to A549 lung cancer cells by binding Na+/K+‐ATPase, which is overexpressed in these cells. Surface‐modified, drug‐loaded EVs exhibit enhanced cytotoxicity compared to unmodified EVs and free drug, suggesting this system may lower the effective

Utilizing traditional literature to triangulate the ecological history of a tropical savanna

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 1, Page 81-98, January 2026.
Abstract The ecological history of tropical savannas remains a subject of intense debate and of high conservation relevance. Despite emerging evidence suggesting the antiquity of tropical savannas, the misconception that all tropical savannas are products of anthropogenic deforestation still dominates public and policy spheres.

Plant conservation in a changing Mediterranean world

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 1, Page 49-72, January 2026.
The Mediterranean is one of five climatic regions on the planet characterised by a prolonged summer drought, exceptional plant diversity and high rates of endemism. We provide a framework to link the ecology of plant species conservation in the context of rapid and extreme climate deregulation to a philosophical typology of temporal attitudes (i.e ...

The association of Mediterranean plant species with herbivorous arthropods and its effect on pest abundance in organic vineyards

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 188, Issue 1, Page 369-385, January 2026.
We determined the associations of native Mediterranean plant species located around organic vineyards with species of Auchenorrhyncha and phytophagous tetranychid and tenuipalpid mites, including important vineyard pests: Jacobiasca lybica and Tetranychus urticae.

Green Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticles From Onion Peel for Wastewater Bacteria Detection and Methyl Orange Degradation

open access: yesJournal of Nanotechnology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Wastewater from industrial and domestic sources is frequently contaminated with pathogenic bacteria, such as coliforms, posing a significant threat to human and environmental health. Conventional methods for synthesising metal nanoparticles are often hazardous and energy‐intensive, highlighting the need for sustainable alternatives.
