Modelling compressive loading in large‐bodied mammals reveals distinct biomechanical strategies in proboscidean humeri

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Graviportal proboscideans differ in limb morphology, adopting slender or more robust long bone morphotypes. Finite element analyses (FEA) on extant and extinct taxa reveal functional differences between morphotypes, with robust humeri exhibiting lower peak stress under neutral and off‐axis loading.

Clinical outcomes of olecranon sled fixation in patients with Mayo type II olecranon fractures

open access: yes
Background: Tension band wiring and plate fixation are common internal fixation methods used for olecranon fractures, but complications and reoperations are common.

Effect of vertical distance between the heart base and the cuff on arterial blood pressure measurements using PetMAP in anaesthetised dogs

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Objectives To evaluate how variations in limb positioning, when compared with standard position at the heart base, affect oscillometric arterial blood pressure measurements in 22 anaesthetised healthy dogs. Materials and Methods The thoracic vertical depth was measured in each dog from the caudal angle of the scapula to the body of the sternum caudal ...

Role of Triceps Muscle Fiber‐Specific Myokines in Pancreatic β‐Cell Protection: Implications for Type 2 Diabetes: A Narrative Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a major global health challenge, primarily driven by insulin resistance and progressive β‐cell dysfunction aggravated by chronic low‐grade inflammation. Skeletal muscle has emerged as a pivotal endocrine organ through the secretion of myokines, which exert systemic metabolic and immunomodulatory ...

Associations Between Health‐Related Physical Fitness and Accelerometry‐Based Energy Expenditure in Physiotherapy Workers

open access: yesPhysiotherapy Research International, Volume 31, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Purpose Although it has been assumed that higher physical activity (PA) levels will contribute to better physical fitness (PF) performance, the interplay between these two has yet to be investigated. Moreover, the majority of studies have been presented in children and adolescents, and older adults, while little is known about ...

Sliding Osteotomy, a New Simple Technique for Olecranon Nonunion Treatment

open access: yes, 2023
Nonunion is a rare complication after surgical treatment of olecranon fracture, but indeed it is a devastating one because of the high potential for elbow stiffness, pain, soft tissue and skin problems, and device complaining.

Morphometric and Paleobiological Insights Into Pleistocene Sicilian Wolf Populations

open access: yesActa Zoologica, Volume 107, Issue 4, Page 409-431, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The Pleistocene wolves (Canis lupus) from Sicily represent one of the few known insular populations of this species from that time period. Despite their potential relevance for understanding carnivore adaptations in insular contexts, no dedicated study has previously investigated their morphology and evolutionary significance.

Response to equine cardiac adverse events during sports

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 38, Issue 10, Page 556-564, October 2026.
Summary Cardiac adverse events and sudden death are a feared scenario for equine veterinarians, with serious consequences for animal health, riders' safety and the social licence to operate equestrian sports. The response to equine cardiac adverse events (CAEs) during sports is poorly defined.

Hoffmann's two‐toed sloth I: Complete myology in the thoracic limb of Choloepus (Pilosa: Xenarthra)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 714-736, October 2026.
Two‐toed sloths use their thoracic limbs for more frequent and prolonged suspensory support than three‐toed sloths and accordingly demonstrate myological traits consistent with stability of the pectoral girdle, enhanced flexor force/torque applied at the elbow joint, and grip on the support.
