Wiring the senses: Factors that regulate peripheral axon pathfinding in sensory systems

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, Volume 252, Issue 1, Page 81-103, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Sensory neurons of the head are the ones that transmit the information about the external world to our brain for its processing. Axons from cranial sensory neurons sense different chemoattractant and chemorepulsive molecules during the journey and in the target tissue to establish the precise innervation with brain neurons and/or receptor ...

Dog and mouse: toward a balanced view of the mammalian olfactory system

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2014
Although the most intensively studied mammalian olfactory system is that of the mouse, in which olfactory chemical cues of one kind or another are detected in four different nasal areas [the main olfactory epithelium (MOE), the septal organ (SO ...

Contrast Agent Clearance Dynamics and Diffusion in the Mouse Brain After Ventricular Administration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of contrast agent clearance by convective bulk flow from the ventricular spaces to the subarachnoid space on the ventral aspect of the brain, or by diffusion into the parenchyma across the pia‐glia or through the semi‐permeable ependyma. Abstract Fluid and solute exchange between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) spaces and the central

Unraveling Cajal's view of the olfactory system

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2014
The olfactory system has a highly regular organization of interconnected synaptic circuits from the periphery. It is therefore an excellent model for understanding general principles about how the brain processes information.

Amino Acid‐Sensing Neurons in the Anterior Piriform Cortex Control Brown Adipose Tissue Thermogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a class of amino acid‐sensing neurons, APCCRH neurons, which regulate BAT thermogenesis. Leucine deficiency alters intrinsic excitability through GCN2 signaling pathway, activating APCCRH neurons, which in turn regulate BAT thermogenesis via projections to the lateral hypothalamus.

Advanced Microfluidic‐Based Wearable Electrochemical Sensors for Continuous Biochemical Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Microfluidic‐based wearable electrochemical sensors are transforming non‐invasive health monitoring through real‐time biochemical analysis of sweat, saliva, and interstitial fluid. This review explores advances in microfluidic design, fabrication, and sensor integration while addressing biofluid variability, material compatibility, and scalability.

DeepNose: An Equivariant Convolutional Neural Network Predictive Of Human Olfactory Percepts [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The olfactory system employs responses of an ensemble of odorant receptors (ORs) to sense molecules and to generate olfactory percepts. Here we hypothesized that ORs can be viewed as 3D spatial filters that extract molecular features relevant to the olfactory system, similarly to the spatio-temporal filters found in other sensory modalities.

Self‐powered virtual olfactory generation system based on bionic fibrous membrane and electrostatic field accelerated evaporation

open access: yesEcoMat, Volume 5, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
In this paper, a self‐powered virtual olfactory generation system is fabricated based on an ultrafast voltage‐elevation triboelectric nanogenerator. This system has two operation chambers, where the electrospray devices are in the front chamber and the electrostatic‐field accelerated evaporation process is occurred in the back.

“Bio‐based Plastic? Hm, I've Never Seen It!”—A mixed‐methods investigation into consumer preferences for different packaging material of fresh apples and tomatoes

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract Packaging of fresh fruits and vegetables is standard in many grocery stores. This mixed methods study aims to identify the role packaging plays in consumer choice and what packaging material consumers prefer. We analyzed data from quantitative stated preference experiments with a quota sample of 485 consumers living in Germany.
