Oligoclonal restriction of antiviral immunoreaction in oligoclonal band-negative MS patients

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 2014
Presence of oligoclonal bands (OCB) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a diagnostic hallmark of multiple sclerosis (MS). However, up to 10% of patients were OCB negative in routine laboratory tests. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is at least an oligoclonal restriction of intrathecal antibody synthesis against measles, rubella and/or ...

Oligoclonal bands

Practical Neurology
Oligoclonal bands (OCBs) represent the presence of intrathecal immunoglobulin G (IgG) as detected by isoelectric focusing and immunofixation. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysed alongside a paired serum sample gives five different immunofixation patterns. These are: type 1—the normal physiological state with no intrathecal IgG synthesis; type 2—evidence

Differential oligoclonal band patterns on polyvinyldifluoride membranes

Journal of Immunological Methods, 1989
We report a novel observation which has been reproducibly noted whilst studying immunoglobulin G binding to antigen immobilized on polyvinyldifluoride membranes. In some samples we have observed a difference between the pattern of oligoclonal bands on the front surface when compared to the reverse side of the membrane.

Reappraisal of CSF-specific oligoclonal bands in Asia

Multiple Sclerosis Journal, 2021
The prevalence of cerebrospinal fluid–specific oligoclonal bands (CSF-OCBs) was reported to be low in Asian people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) compared to that in Western pwMS. It is yet to be determined whether it is a genuine feature of Asian pwMS or a misapprehension owing to past mis-classification of MS-mimicking diseases as MS.

Oligoclonal Bands in Myoclonus Epilepsy

Archives of Neurology, 1982
To the Editor.— Iivanainen et al (Archives1981;38:206-208) reported the presence of CSF oligoclonal bands in six of eight patients with progressive myoclonus epilepsy. However, in most, if not all, of the positive cases, the apparent oligoclonal pattern was identical, consisting of two bands, one with mid-γ mobility and the other with slow-γ mobility.

CSF-Oligoclonal Bands in Multiple Sclerosis

1980
The present paper is concerned with a correlation between clinical parameters of multiple sclerosis and different agar gel electrophoretical patterns in CSF. The agar gel electrophoresis represents clearly the most sensitive method for the demonstration of oligoclonal bands in CSF.

Oligoclonal bands: An immunological and clinical approach

2022
Oligoclonal bands (OCBs) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) represent an indicator of IgG and IgM immunoglobulins intrathecal synthesis in the central nervous system (CNS). The techniques and detection methods for their determination have evolved from the beginning to isoelectric focusing on an agarose gel as the gold standard technique and immunodetection ...

Oligoclonal Bands in Cerebrospinal Fluid

1980
Considering the well-known importance of CSF IgG in laboratory tests for the diagnosis of MS, we have studied purified CSF IgG using the technique of isoelectric focusing (IEF) (Table 1) in 17 cases of MS and a control population of 22 Other Neurological Disease (OND) and 14 normal subjects (Table 2).

Oligoclonal Bands in Myoclonus Epilepsy-Reply

Archives of Neurology, 1982
In Reply.— We appreciate Dr Keshgegian's comments. Following the publication of our report on immunologic abnormalities in the CSF of patients with progressive myoclonus epilepsy, we developed a micromethod for detection of oligoclonal IgG in unconcentrated CSF by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.1We tested for oligoclonal IgG bands in the same ...
