The electrical connectivity in the inferior olive (IO) nucleus plays an important role in generating well-timed spiking activity. Here we combined electrophysiological and computational approaches to assess the functional organization of the IO nucleus ...

BOLD-fMRI in the mouse auditory pathway
The auditory pathway is widely distributed throughout the brain, and is perhaps one of the most interesting networks in the context of neuroplasticity.

ABSTRACT Auditory hypersensitivity is a prominent symptom in Fragile X syndrome (FXS), the most prevalent monogenic cause of autism and intellectual disability. FXS arises through the loss of the protein encoded by the FMR1 (Fragile X Messenger Ribonucleoprotein 1) gene, FMRP, required for normal neural circuit excitability.

Properties of the nucleo-olivary pathway: an in vivo whole-cell patch clamp study. [PDF]
The inferior olivary nucleus (IO) forms the gateway to the cerebellar cortex and receives feedback information from the cerebellar nuclei (CN), thereby occupying a central position in the olivo-cerebellar loop.

Post-operative pediatric cerebellar mutism syndrome and its association with hypertrophic olivary degeneration [PDF]
Background: The dentato-thalamo-cortical (DTC) pathway is recognized as the anatomical substrate for postoperative pediatric cerebellar mutism (POPCMS), a well-recognized complication affecting up to 31% of children undergoing posterior fossa brain ...

Organ‐Specific Histopathological Effects of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure: A Narrative Review
ABSTRACT The role of alcohol‐induced epigenetic modifications that predispose the fetus to metabolic dysregulation, increased susceptibility to future substance use, and long‐term behavioral and cognitive impairments has received increasing attention.

Adaptation of Binaural Processing in the Adult Brainstem Induced by Ambient Noise [PDF]
Interaural differences in stimulus intensity and timing are major cues for sound localization. In mammals, these cues are first processed in the lateral and medial superior olive by interaction of excitatory and inhibitory synaptic inputs from ipsi- and ...

TTBK2‐Driven Ciliogenesis Is Required for Intrinsic Neuronal Regeneration After Spinal Cord Injury
TTBK2‐dependent ciliogenesis is required for intrinsic neuronal regeneration after spinal cord injury. Loss of TTBK2 disrupts primary cilium integrity, attenuates SHH signaling, and impairs axonal regrowth. Restoring SHH activity partially rescues neuronal structural deficits, highlighting the TTBK2/cilium–SHH as a therapeutic target.

Electrical Synapses Contribute to Sleep‐Dependent Declarative Memory Retention
Blocking electrical synapses (gap junctions) in healthy humans by mefloquine impaired the sleep‐dependent retention of verbal declarative memory and improved sensorimotor memory consolidation irrespective of sleep. Mefloquine also disrupted the coupling of sleep spindles to EEG slow oscillations in humans but did not affect hippocampal sharp‐wave ...
