The perception and evolution of flagellin, cold shock protein and elongation factor Tu from vector‐borne bacterial plant pathogens

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2024.
Vector‐borne bacterial plant pathogens generally exhibit fewer immunogenic proteinaceous features compared to their free‐living relatives. Abstract Vector‐borne bacterial pathogens cause devastating plant diseases that cost billions of dollars in crop losses worldwide.

Insect–microbe interactions and their influence on organisms and ecosystems

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2024.
Insect‐symbiont interactions can have a variety of impacts on organisms and the ecosystem. These multitrophic interactions can result in differential attraction of beneficial insects or natural enemies. Additinoally, these interactions can influence plant and/or soil health as well as microbiome composition.

Design and characterization of molecular markers for the detection of predation of Trioza erytreae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Trioza erytreae (Hemiptera, Psylloidea) is an important citrus pest being also one of the vectors of Candidatus Liberibacter spp., the causal bacterial agents of citrus HUANGLONGBING (greening) disease, deemed as the most devastating disease for citrus ...

Landscapes with higher crop diversity have lower aphid species richness but higher plant virus prevalence

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 7, Page 1573-1586, July 2024.
In summary, we found that landscape‐scale crop diversity impacts plant virus prevalence at spatial scales of >1 km. This suggests that potato growers could reduce PVY prevalence by geographically isolating potato fields from other potato or other PVY hosts.

Estimating perennial crop supply response: A methodology literature review

open access: yesAgricultural Economics, Volume 55, Issue 2, Page 159-180, March 2024.
Abstract Perennial crops are important both economically and as a component of a healthy and nutritious diet (e.g., many fruits and nuts). However, the study of perennial crop production and farmer response to output price changes (i.e., supply response) is complex thanks to the dynamic nature of investment and decision making in these industries.

Phytoplasma: A plant pathogen that cannot be ignored in agricultural production—Research progress and outlook

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2024.
A research progress and outlook of phytoplasma from multiple aspects, including classification, detection, host range and distribution, genomic information, pathogenic mechanism, and prevention and control strategies. Abstract Phytoplasmas are phloem‐restricted plant‐pathogenic bacteria transmitted by insects.

Effects of Phoracantha recurva Newman, 1840 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) attacks on the content and chemical composition of essential oils of Eucalyptus grandis leaves and its clone 977 and evaluation of their potential bioactivity against xylophagous organisms (fungi and insects) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Clonal eucalyptus are highly valued in Morocco and in the Mediterranean basin for the production of industrial wood, but nothing is known about their ability to resist xylophagous plants.

The role of phenolic compounds on abundance of olive psyllid, Euphyllura straminea Loginova on commercial and promising olive cultivars

open access: yes
Abstract Olive psyllid, Euphyllura straminea Loginova has been reported as a key pest of olive in Iran. Field observations have shown that infestation rate of various olive cultivars to olive psyllid are different. This study aimed to determine the levels of total phenol and 3, 4-dihydroxyphenylethanol (DHPE), as well as the horticultural ...

Micro-CT study of male genitalia and reproductive system of the Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, 1908 (Insecta: Hemiptera, Liviidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The Asian citrus psyllid (ACP), Diaphorina citri, is a major vector of the bacteria Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus and C.L. americanus, which cause Huanglongbing disease (HLB) (aka Citrus greening disease), considered the most serious bacterial ...
