A Comprehensive Assessment and Benchmark Study of Large Atomistic Foundation Models for Phonons

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
We benchmark six large atomistic foundation models on 2429 crystalline materials for phonon transport properties. The rapid development of universal machine learning potentials (uMLPs) has enabled efficient, accurate predictions of diverse material properties across broad chemical spaces.

On the Relationship between Tourist Flows and Household Expenditure in Barbados: A Dynamic OLS Approach [PDF]

open access: yes
Keynesians propose that increases in tourist arrivals are associated with an expansion in private spending through the multiplier effect. To test this hypothesis, this study augments a simple consumption function with tourist arrivals and employs the ...

Coherence-based Partial Exact Recovery Condition for OMP/OLS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We address the exact recovery of the support of a k-sparse vector with Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) and Orthogonal Least Squares (OLS) in a noiseless setting.

Rank-1/2: A Simple Way to Improve the OLS Estimation of Tail Exponents [PDF]

open access: yes
Despite the availability of more sophisticated methods, a popular way to estimate a Pareto exponent is still to run an OLS regression: log(Rank)=a-b log(Size), and take b as an estimate of the Pareto exponent.

Quantitative assessment of masticatory muscles based on skull muscle attachment areas in Carnivora

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Masticatory muscles are composed of the temporalis, masseter, and pterygoid muscles in mammals. Each muscle has a different origin on the skull and insertion on the mandible; thus, all masticatory muscles contract in different directions. Collecting in vivo data and directly measuring the masticatory muscles anatomically in various Carnivora ...

But how does it smell? An investigation of olfactory bulb size among living and fossil primates and other euarchontoglirans

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Analysis of cranial endocast data of 181 extant and 41 fossil species from Euarchontoglires shows that there was a reduction in olfactory bulb size in Crown Primates, but that there were also subsequent reductions in various other primate clades (Anthropoidea, Catarrhini, Platyrrhini, crown Cercopithecoidea, Hominoidea).
