Windows of opportunity in subseasonal weather regime forecasting: A statistical–dynamical approach
This study explores how the atmospheric state at initialisation creates windows of opportunity for improving week 3 forecasts of weather regime activity. Greenland blocking activity increases following Madden–Julian Oscillation phases 7, 8, and 1 and weak stratospheric polar vortex states, revealing patterns exploitable by statistical models.

Chatter, Clatter, and Blinks: Defective Car Alerts and the Role of Technological Advances in Design Defect/failure to Warn Cases [PDF]
Car owners are familiar with the warning lights on the dashboard and the beeping sound reminding them to use their seatbelt. But, neither the legislature nor courts have concretely defined the legal nature of these alerts. This iBrief will analyze when a

Do digital platforms create entrepreneurial opportunities? Evidence from marginal areas
Abstract Research Summary This article enters the debate on the effects of digital platforms on entrepreneurial opportunities by estimating whether the entry of a home‐sharing platform shapes entrepreneurial decisions in marginal areas. We add a novel perspective to the literature, as we contend that when economic conditions are unfavorable, digital ...

Observations of ozone production in a dissipating tropical convective cell during TC4 [PDF]
From 13 July–9 August 2007, 25 ozonesondes were launched from Las Tablas, Panama as part of the Tropical Composition, Cloud, and Climate Coupling (TC4) mission. On 5 August, a strong convective cell formed in the Gulf of Panama.

ABSTRACT Agricultural methane emissions represent a significant contributor to global climate change, with irrigated rice cultivation being one of the primary sources. Despite the availability of effective mitigation technologies, their adoption often remains limited due to behavioural and institutional constraints.

Contingent task and motion planning under uncertainty for human–robot interactions [PDF]
Manipulation planning under incomplete information is a highly challenging task for mobile manipulators. Uncertainty can be resolved by robot perception modules or using human knowledge in the execution process.

Reporting Control Deficiencies in Repeat Internal Audit Engagements*
ABSTRACT This study examines the reporting of control deficiencies in repeat internal audit engagements. Experienced internal auditors were presented with a hypothetical case in which they were asked about the likelihood of reporting an internal control deficiency discovered last year but which was, “through an oversight,” not reported to company ...

A reanalysis of MODIS fine mode fraction over ocean using OMI and daily GOCART simulations [PDF]
Using daily Goddard Chemistry Aerosol Radiation and Transport (GOCART) model simulations and columnar retrievals of 0.55 μm aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and fine mode fraction (FMF) from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), we ...

Proteostasis of organelles in aging and disease
Cells rely on regulated proteostasis mechanisms to keep their internal compartments functioning properly. When these mechanisms fail, damaged proteins accumulate, disrupting organelles, such as the nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi, and lysosomes, as well as membraneless organelles, such as stress granules, processing bodies, the ...

Improving algorithms and uncertainty estimates for satellite NO2 retrievals: results from the quality assurance for the essential climate variables (QA4ECV) project [PDF]
Global observations of tropospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2) columns have been shown to be feasible from space, but consistent multi-sensor records do not yet exist, nor are they covered by planned activities at the international level.
