Genomic and secondary metabolites of the marine cyanobacterium Capilliphycus salinus ALCB114379

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract Assembling high‐quality genomes from underexplored environments can be helpful for understanding microbial diversity and identifying novel species. The Cyanobacterium type strain Capilliphycus salinus ALCB114379 is a representative of Oscillatoriales order isolated from a supralittoral zone of the south Atlantic Ocean in Brazil, an ecotone ...

The Evolving Role of 21st Century Municipal Financial Advisors

open access: yesPublic Budgeting &Finance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe the evolution of the market for municipal financial advice since the year 2000 and present new empirical facts. Using SEC municipal advisor filings, we show that the number of operating advisors has decreased over time. We document that withdrawals—either exits, reorganizations, or mergers—are concentrated among smaller firms and ...

R1-Omni: Explainable Omni-Multimodal Emotion Recognition with Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesCoRR
In this work, we present the first application of Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Reward (RLVR) to an Omni-multimodal large language model in the context of emotion recognition, a task where both visual and audio modalities play crucial roles.

‘Mr. Preacherman, Should We Love Thy Neighbour?’: On Moral Understanding and Moral Change in Deep Moral Disagreements

open access: yesPhilosophical Investigations, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article examines what it means to respond, or fail to respond, to the individual realities of others in cases of deep moral disagreement concerning trans‐exclusionary sentiments. Building on a limitation we identify in Daniele Moyal‐Sharrock and Constantine Sandis' account of ‘bedrock gender’, we consider two readings of Kendrick Lamar's ...

OmniPlay: Benchmarking Omni-Modal Models on Omni-Modal Game Playing

open access: yesCoRR
While generalist foundation models like Gemini and GPT-4o demonstrate impressive multi-modal competence, existing evaluations fail to test their intelligence in dynamic, interactive worlds. Static benchmarks lack agency, while interactive benchmarks suffer from a severe modal bottleneck, typically ignoring crucial auditory and temporal cues.

Exploring natural sunscreens: UVB protection and antioxidant properties in gadusol‐rich fish roes extracts

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Gadusol‐rich extracts provide effective UVB protection and antioxidant activity in HaCaT cells and C. elegans, highlighting their potential as natural photochemoprotective agents for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. It also demonstrates remarkable in vitro antioxidant capacity and thermal stability over time.

A structure from motion inequality

open access: yes, 2007
We state an elementary inequality for the structure from motion problem for m cameras and n points. This structure from motion inequality relates space dimension, camera parameter dimension, the number of cameras and number points and global symmetry ...

Plants synthesize ergothioneine, showing a link to abiotic stress

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Various plants possess ergothioneine biosynthetic genes and can synthesize this antioxidant, where increased EGT levels under abiotic stress conditions indicate protective functions. Abstract Ergothioneine (EGT) is a sulphur‐containing histidine derivative and a potent antioxidant that exhibits beneficial effects on human health.

Capybara-OMNI: An Efficient Paradigm for Building Omni-Modal Language Models

open access: yesCoRR
With the development of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), numerous outstanding accomplishments have emerged within the open-source community. Due to the complexity of creating and training multimodal data pairs, it is still a computational and time-consuming process to build powerful MLLMs. In this work, we introduce Capybara-OMNI, an MLLM that
