Thyroxin as a growth stimulator for the fry of Oncorhynchus gorbuscha (Walb.) from the Barents Sea

Thyroxin has been demonstrated to stimulate the weight growth of Oncorhynchus gorbuscha (Walb.) fry from the Barents Sea under experimental conditions. It has been shown that thyroxin, acting on O. gorbuscha fry via water (hormonal baths) at a total dose of 20 or 50 mg increased the body weight by a factor of 1.5 compared to the control on the 80th day

Abstract 1. 1. Unspawned pink salmon were captured on their fresh-water spawning grounds. Serial blood samples were withdrawn via an indwelling aortic catheter and analyzed for lactate ion. 2. 2. Following postoperative recovery a progressive increase in circulating lactate was observed which continued for up to 10 days.
