Characterization of vitellogenin from rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
Gene, 1996The nucleotide sequence of the vitellogenin cDNA from the rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss was determined. Analysis of the deduced amino acid sequence (1659 residues) places the lipovitellin I, phosvitin and lipovitellin II domains between amino acids 16 to 1088, 1089 to 1145 and 1146 to 1659, respectively.

Disposition kinetics of trimethoprim in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
Xenobiotica, 19951. The pharmacokinetics of trimethoprim (TMP) following intra-aortic administration were investigated in rainbow trout. 2. The disposition kinetics for TMP were best described by a three-compartment open model. The disappearance of TMP from fish blood was characterized by rapid and pronounced distribution phases and a slow terminal elimination phase. 3.

Estrogenic response of bisphenol A in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
Aquatic Toxicology, 2000Bisphenol A (BPA) previously shown to possess xenoestrogenic activities was administered to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) through a continuos flow system. The estrogenic response expressed as the induction of vitellogenin (VTG) synthesis was measured during 12 days of exposure, using a direct sandwich ELISA.

Rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, as a model for aromatase inhibition
The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1999The feasibility of utilizing rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, as an alternative model for studying the inhibition of aromatase (CYP 19) was investigated. The suppression of estrogen-dependent tumors by aromatase inhibitors has been important in the treatment of breast cancer.

Sequencing and characterization of the anadromous steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) transcriptome
Marine Genomics, 2014Identifying the traits that differ between hatchery and wild fish may allow for pragmatic changes to hatchery practice. To meet those ends, we sequenced, assembled, and characterized the anadromous steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) transcriptome. Using the Illumina sequencing platform, we sequenced nearly 41million 76-mer reads representing 3.1 Gbp of ...

Ammonia as a stimulant to ventilation in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss
Respiratory Physiology & Neurobiology, 2009Ammonia is the third most important respiratory gas in ammoniotelic fish after oxygen and carbon dioxide. We here investigated the effects of elevated plasma ammonia on ventilation in freshwater rainbow trout. Intact trout fitted with indwelling dorsal aortic catheters were given injections (over 5 min) of Cortland saline, isotonic high ammonia ...

Egg size and growth in steelheadOncorhynchus mykiss
Journal of Fish Biology, 2018The effects of egg size on early development and growth of steelheadOncorhynchus mykisswere recorded for more than 200 days following hatching. Fish from smaller eggs hatched sooner and at a smaller size than fish from larger eggs, but fish from smaller eggs showed consistently higher growth rates than fish from larger eggs.

Androgen metabolism in the skin of the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 1993Pieces of skin of male and female rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were incubated with testosterone and 11-ketotestosterone as substrates. In immature fish the conversion rate was low. In non-spawning adult males 11-ketotestosterone was reduced to 5α-11KDHT (up to 5.2%). In the fish in spawning condition the 5α-reduction rate was only about 1 to 2%.

Bacteriolytic activity of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) complement
Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 2002The total bacteriolytic activity comprising of the classical, alternative and possible lectine pathways as well as the bacteriolytic activity of the alternative pathway (AP) of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) complement was assessed in temperatures ranging from 0 to 35 degrees C against a recombinant strain Escherichia coli containing two reporter ...

Toxic effects of orimulsion on rainbow trout oncorhynchus mykiss
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2003Orimulsion (stable emulsion of natural bitumen and water) is a new imported industrial fuel in Lithuania. No data on its toxicity to fish is freely available. The aim of this study was to investigate sensitivity of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) to acute and chronic toxicity of orimulsion and to estimate the Maximum Acceptable Toxicant ...
