Abstract Based on the assumption that the change of the void ratio is caused by effective stress, creep effect and temperature, a one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation theory considering the thermal effect is established that contains the heat balance equation and the continuity equation. Verification and calculation examples are performed.

A study on one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of double-layered soil
Computers and Geotechnics, 2002Abstract In this paper, an analytical solution is derived for one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of double-layered soil, based on the assumptions proposed by Davis and Raymond (Davis EH, Raymond GP. A non-linear theory of consolidation. Geotechnique 1965;15(2):161–73) that the decrease in permeability is proportional to the decrease in ...

One-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of multi-layered soil by differential quadrature method
Computers and Geotechnics, 2005Abstract In this paper the differential quadrature method (DQM) is introduced into the analysis of one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of multi-layered soil with partially drained boundaries and arbitrary loading condition. The effect of initial effective stress distribution is taken into account. The convergence and accuracy study shows that the

Nonlinear analytical solution for one-dimensional consolidation of soft soil under cyclic loading
Journal of Zhejiang University: Science A, 2006This paper presents an analytical solution for one-dimensional consolidation of soft soil under some common types of cyclic loading such as trapezoidal cyclic loading, based on the assumptions proposed by Davis and Raymond (1965) that the decrease in permeability is proportional to the decrease in compressibility during the consolidation process of the

AbstractTo further investigate the nonlinear creep properties of soft soils and the effect of variable loading, a one‐dimensional (1D) nonlinear creep consolidation system of soft soils under construction load is established, including time‐dependent drainage (TDD) boundary, elastic‐viscous‐plastic deformation, non‐Darcy flow (NDF), and self‐weight ...

AbstractConsidering the nonlinear rheological properties of saturated clay, the modified unified hardening (UH) constitutive relation was introduced to describe the nonlinear rheological deformation. Meanwhile, Swartzendruber's flow law was used to simulate the non‐Darcian flow of pore water in the progress of rheological consolidation. Consequently, a

Analysis of one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of a saturated lumpy porous clay layer
Computers and Geotechnics, 2021Abstract In reclamation projects, excavated clay is dumped without any compaction to form a landfill with a heterogeneous pore structure. In this clay, interlump fissures is several orders of magnitude larger than intralump pores, forming lumpy porous clay with double porosity.
