Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

Flexural Characteristics of Hollow One Way-Ferrocement Slabs

open access: yesEngineering, Technology & Applied Science Research
In this study, five hollow one-way Ferrocement slabs were fabricated, cast, and tested under a four-point loading system. The ferrocement slabs were voided by waste plastic bottles. The main employed parameters were the void presence, void ratio for the waste plastic bottles, and fiber percentage. The waste plastic bottle void method relied on a hollow

Orbital‐Hybridizable Nanoseed Interphase Enables One‐Minute Rechargeable, Energy‐Dense Anode‐Free Aqueous Zinc Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An orbital‐hybridizable nanoseed (OHNS) interphase induces strong orbital hybridization between Zn and carbon edges, accelerating Zn nucleation while suppressing 2D surface diffusion. This interfacial electronic regulation drives uniform, dense, and (002)‐oriented Zn growth, enabling stable and fast charging behavior in anode‐free aqueous Zn batteries.

Step‐Edge Functionalization by N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes Enhances Catalytic Activity in Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Atomically precise functionalization by N‐heterocyclic carbenes enhances the catalytic efficiency of macroscopically defined step edges toward electrochemical CO2${\rm CO}_2$ reduction. Sub‐molecular imaging reveals conformational differences between specific NHCs, which can be correlated with their catalytic performance. Photoelectron spectroscopy and

Tailoring Phonon‐Driven Responses in α‐MoO3 through Isotopic Enrichment

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The implementation of polaritonic materials into nanoscale devices requires selective tuning of parameters to realize desired spectral or thermal responses. One robust material, α‐MoO3, an orthorhombic crystal boasting three distinct phonon dispersions, provides three polaritonic dispersions of hyperbolic phonon polaritons (HPhPs) across the ...

Engineering CO2 Reduction Pathways via Alloy‐Support Interactions in Li‐CO2 Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Alloy‐support interactions in RuCu/NC induce interfacial charge redistribution and shift d‐band centers, steering CO2 reduction from Li2CO3 to metastable Li2C2O4. This pathway engineering lowers the rate‐determining barrier and suppresses carbonate formation, enabling high discharge voltage (3.23 V) in Li‐CO2 batteries with reduced overpotential (0.50 ...

Structural behavior of reinforced concrete one-way slabs voided by polystyrene balls

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2019
In the last two decades, the use of voided (bubbled) slabs in constructions has been increased because of several advantages such as light self-weight, cost-saving, and accelerated construction schedules.
