Is there any Association between Helicobacter Pylori Infection and Laryngeal Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective: To investigate the possible role of Helicobacter pylori as a cause of squamous cell carcinoma of larynx in a case-control study in an otolaryngology ward at an academic university.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Deep reconditioning of batteries during DSCS 3 flight operations [PDF]

open access: yes
Deep reconditioning of batteries is defined as discharge below the 1.0 volt/cell level to a value of about 1.0 volt/battery. This type of reconditioning was investigated for use on the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) spacecraft, and has ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Long Life Nickel Electrodes for a Nickel-hydrogen Cell: Cycle Life Tests [PDF]

open access: yes
In order to develop a long life nickel electrode for a Ni/H2 cell, cycle life tests of nickel electrodes were carried out in Hi/H2 boiler plate cells.

Multipartite viruses: A decentralized mode of functioning. [O.24] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Multipartite viruses are characterized by a genome composed of two or more nucleic acid segments, each encapsidated indivually. A classical view in virology assumes that the viral replication cycle occurs within individual cells, where the whole viral ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Performance Assessment of Cell-Separation Processes for Rear-Contact Solar Cells: Comparison of Indoor and Outdoor Measurements

open access: yesSiliconPV Conference Proceedings
Half-cell and third-cell modules are the current module technology standard due to their enhanced electrical performance. Also, special module layouts for building or vehicle integrated photovoltaics rely on non-standard cell formats obtained by ...
