Heterogeneous stresses and deformation mechanisms at shallow crustal conditions, Hungaroa Fault Zone, Hikurangi Subduction Margin, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The Hungaroa Fault Zone (HFZ), an inactive thrust fault along the Hikurangi Subduction Margin, accommodated large displacements (~4-10 km) at the onset of subduction in the early Miocene.

Full-field predictions of ice dynamic recrystallisation under simple shear conditions

open access: yes, 2016
Understanding the flow of ice on the microstructural scale is essential for improving our knowledge of large-scale ice dynamics, and thus our ability to predict future changes of ice sheets.

Determination of recrystallisation phenomenon in type 316 stainless steel VIM-VAR ingots during cogging operations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
This study is focused on understanding the effects of key process parameters on the onset of recrystallisation of coarse, elongated, and dendritic grains of the as-cast microstructure during ingot-to-billet conversion, consisting of successive cogging ...

High-Temperature Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bar with a Momentum Trap for Obtaining Flow Stress Behaviour and Dynamic Recrystallisation

open access: yes, 2014
In hot forming processes at elevated temperatures like wire rolling, microstructural changes such as repeated dynamic recrystallisation and grain growth occur.

Strain localisation and dynamic recrystallisation in the ice-air aggregate: A numerical study

open access: yes, 2016
We performed numerical simulations on the micro-dynamics of ice with air inclusions as a second phase. This provides first results of a numerical approach to model dynamic recrystallisation in polyphase crystalline aggregates.

Mineral reaction and deformation in Plagioclase-Olivine composites : an experimental study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Deformation and metamorphism of rocks are fundamentally interrelated but the ways in which processes of reaction and deformation mutually influence each other are still poorly understood in natural rocks.

Static recrystallisation study of as-cast austenitic stainless steel

open access: yes, 2013
This investigation will assist the generation of the fundamental knowledge required to develop advanced high strength and formable steels using thin strip casting processes.

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Solution‐Processed Two‐Dimensional Indium Oxide on Sodium‐Embedded Alumina for Reconfigurable Optoelectronic Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wafer‐scale two‐dimensioanl In2Se3 oxidized into InOx on sodium‐embedded beta‐alumina enables multifunctional reconfigurable electronics. Sodium ions accumulate within distinct spatial distribution under drain‐controlle and gate‐controlled operation. Drain‐control operation gives controllability of ultraviolet‐driven optoelectronic synaptic conductance

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.
