Risk factors in onychocryptosis
Abstract A study is described in which the normal toes of 50 patients with unilateral ingrowing toenails were compared with those of 50 healthy subjects matched for age and sex. Twenty-one potential risk factors were compared between the groups.

Onychocryptosis is an inflammatory disease of the lateral nail fold resulting from the embedding of the lateral border of the nail plate in the periungual soft tissues with consequential formation of granulation tissue and hypertrophy of the lateral nail fold.
