Sampling broiler house litter for coccidial oocysts

British Poultry Science, 1975
1. A method of sampling the surface litter of commercial broiler houses for laboratory estimation of numbers of coccidial oocysts is described. 2. The resulting estimates can be regarded as indices of the total number of oocysts present in the house at the time of sampling. 3.

Oocyst-Induced Toxoplasma gondii Infections in Cats

The Journal of Parasitology, 1989
To investigate the oocyst-induced cycle with a 21+ day prepatent period, 32 cats were fed 5 x 10(5) to 2 x 10(7) sporulated oocysts of Toxoplasma gondii and necropsied between 4 hr and 41 days thereafter. The presence of the earliest stages in 7 cats was tested in mice.

Development of Toxoplasma Oocysts in Neotropical Felidae

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1972
Abstract Toxoplasma gondii oocysts were isolated from the feces of one Felis yagouaroundi (jaguarundi) and two Felis pardalis (ocelot) which initially lacked antibody to Toxoplasma gondii, establishing that not only domestic cats, but other members of the family Felidae can spread Toxoplasma via their feces.

Lesions in goats fed Toxoplasma gondii oocysts

Veterinary Parasitology, 1989
Tissues of 20 2-3-month-old kids and 17 2-4-year old does fed Toxoplasma gondii oocysts were examined histologically. Kids were necropsied between 3 and 50 days post-inoculation (DPI) and does were necropsied between 10 and 422 DPI. Lesions were seen in tissues of all young goats fed 1000-100,000 oocysts and consisted of acute enteritis, necrosis of ...

Infectivity ofCryptosporidium parvumOocysts Following Cryopreservation

Journal of Parasitology, 2001
This study was undertaken to investigate the cryopreservation of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts. Oocysts purified from mouse feces were suspended in distilled water, 10% glycerin, and 2.5% potassium dichromate. They were stored at -20 C and -80 C for 2, 7, and 30 days, respectively. In addition to the purified oocysts, the feces of C.

Coccidiosis: Oocyst counting technique for coccidiostat evaluation

Experimental Parasitology, 1970
Abstract A method is described, involving the collection and examination of individual droppings, which gives a consistent and meaningful measure of the level of subclinical coccidial infection present in birds included in floor-pen or field trials. Analysis of the counts obtained from 6 flocks of birds showed the frequency distribution of the number
