Temporal and Cell‐Specific Regulation of Synaptic Homeostasis by the Chromatin Remodeler Chd1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 33, 15 June 2026.
Chd1, the Drosophila homologue of mammalian CHD2 ‐ a gene linked to autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability, is required for synaptic homeostatic plasticity. Chd1 in glia is necessary for the rapid induction of synaptic homeostasis, whereas Chd1 in motoneurons, muscle, and glia is critical for long‐term maintenance.

Egg Size Variation Between Wild and Captive Broodstock Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) in Watersheds of Three Peri‐Alpine Lakes

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 3, June 2026.
This study examined variations in the egg size of wild‐caught and captive broodstock (created from the direct offspring of wild‐caught) brown trout (Salmo trutta) from three peri‐Alpine lakes (Lake Constance, Lake Lucerne and Lake Zurich). It showed that there was lake‐specific variation in egg size between the two groups of trout.

Micromorphology of ovaries and oogenesis in Grania postclitellochaeta (Clitellata: Enchytraeidae)

open access: yes, 2018
The genus Grania comprises over 70 species of exclusively marine clitellate annelids belonging to the family Enchytraeidae. Morphologically, this genus is well separated from other enchytraeids, with thick cuticles, anterior segments I–IV fused into a ...

Nutrient-dependent regulation of a stable intron modulates germline mitochondrial quality control

open access: yesNature Communications
Mitochondria are inherited exclusively from the mothers and are required for the proper development of embryos. Hence, germline mitochondrial quality is highly regulated during oogenesis to ensure oocyte viability.

Sex Determination in Sponges

open access: yesMolecular Reproduction and Development, Volume 93, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Sex determination in Porifera remains one of the least understood aspects of early metazoan biology despite the group's key phylogenetic position. Sponges display exceptional diversity in sexual systems—ranging from stable gonochorism to sequential hermaphroditism and sex reversal—yet lack morphological dimorphism and any discrete gonadal ...

Single-Nucleus RNA Sequencing Reveals the Transcriptome Profiling of Ovarian Cells in Adolescent Cyprinus carpio

open access: yesAnimals
The common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a crucial freshwater species cultivated worldwide for food consumption. Female carp have better growth performance than males, which fascinates scholars to uncover the mechanism of gonadal differentiation and produce ...

Reduced fecundity associated with Wolbachia infection in a Neotropical drosophilid Redução da fecundidade associada à infecção por Wolbachia em um drosofilídeo Neotropical

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 475-488, June 2026.
Using multiple infected and uninfected Drosophila sturtevanti lines, we investigated (i) the impact of Wolbachia on fecundity and (ii) its effects relative to antibiotic treatment. Based on over 1680 dissected ovaries, fecundity was similar between infected and uninfected flies.

Drosophila oogenesis: Coordinating germ line and soma

open access: yes, 2001
A new function for Delta–Notch signaling has been discovered in Drosophila oogenesis: Delta expressed in the germ cells activates Notch in the surrounding somatic follicle cells to control their differentiation, proliferation and ...

Developmental expression of Ap‐Vas proteins in aphids and flies reveals their evolutionary roles in insects

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, Volume 35, Issue 3, Page 217-231, June 2026.
Duplication of vas genes is universally observed in aphids, and phylogenetic analysis indicates that this event predates the divergence of Aphididae and Phylloxeridae. Ap‐vas1 is germline‐specific, whereas Ap‐vas2–4 exhibit somatic expression, indicating functional divergence during aphid embryogenesis.
