3 Systematics of the Straminipila: Labyrinthulomycota, Hyphochytriomycota, and Oomycota
2014This is an account of the molecular systematics and phylogeny of the osmotrophic stramenopile lineages traditionally studied by mycologists, which include the Labyrinthulomycota, Hyphochytriomycota, and Oomycota. All three groups produce zoospores with a mastigonate anterior flagellum, and all fall within Kingdom Straminipila, which is part of the ...

Biomechanical interaction between hyphae of two Pythium species (Oomycota) and host tissues
Fungal Genetics and Biology, 2002Forces exerted by hyphae of the phytopathogen Pythium graminicola and mammalian pathogen Pythium insidiosum were compared with the mechanical resistance of their hosts' tissues. Hyphal apices of both species exerted a mean force of 2 microN, corresponding to mean pressures of 0.19 microN microm(-2) (or MPa) for P. graminicola, and 0.14 microN microm(-2)

Cryptic diversity of Plasmopara viticola (Oomycota, Peronosporaceae) in North America
Organisms Diversity & Evolution, 2010Plasmopara viticola is the causal agent of grapevine downy mildew and is among the most important diseases in viticulture. It originates from North America, where it coevolved with wild Vitis species. Beginning in the 1870s it turned into a global epidemic that has been causing severe yield losses.

Molecular Techniques for Classification and Diagnosis of Plant Pathogenic Oomycota
2010With a delay of approximately 10 years, molecular techniques came in use for the investigation of phylogenetic, taxonomic, and diagnostic problems in oomycetes. The particular problem in plant pathogenic Oomycota lies in their biotrophic nature, which prohibits axenic cultivation of the majority of species, in particular downy mildews and white blister

Oomycete Albugo candida (Gmel.: Pers.) Kze. was found on plant specimens from the KW Herbarium identified by M. Kotov and T. Omelchuk as E. nasturtiifolium (Poir.) O.E. Schulz (Brassicaceae). Analysis of morphological characters and distribution of the mentioned plant had shown its belonging to E. gallicum (Willd.) O.E.
