Co‐phylogenetic constraints on host breadth within an emerging fungal pathogen complex of global concern

open access: yesEcological Monographs, Volume 95, Issue 3, August 2025.
Abstract Emerging fungal infectious diseases constitute the largest pathogen threat to plants. However, the factors influencing fungal‐plant interactions, host shifts, and the emergence of pathogens on a novel host are still not well understood. Evolutionary relationships among hosts appear to be important, with closely related hosts often sharing ...

Global Review of Blue Carbon Ecosystem Microbial Communities

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 8, August 2025.
A thorough review of Blue Carbon Ecosystems' global and regional patterns in microbial diversity, functions, and distribution is currently missing. In this study, we have, for the first time, analysed 70 years (1930–2020) of data on archaeal, bacterial, and fungal diversity and reported functions in mangrove, saltmarsh, and seagrass ecosystems.

Draft genome sequences of seven isolates of Phytophthora ramorum EU2 from Northern Ireland. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Published onlineHere we present draft-quality genome sequence assemblies for the oomycete Phytophthora ramorum genetic lineage EU2. We sequenced genomes of seven isolates collected in Northern Ireland between 2010 and 2012. Multiple genome sequences from

Fungal and Fungal-like Diseases of Halophytes in the Mediterranean Basin: A State-of-the-Art Review

open access: yesHorticulturae
Halophytes are salt-tolerant plants growing in saline ecosystems and are spread throughout the Mediterranean area. Recently, there has been a renewed interest in agricultural exploitation of halophytes, but poor attention has been given to pest and ...

Egg clutch structure of Rhinella rumbolli (Anura: Bufonidae), a toad from the Yungas of Argentina, with a review of the reproductive diversity in Rhinella [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Rhinella rumbolli is a poorly known, medium-sized toad endemic to the Yungas of Argentina. Recent fieldwork allowed observing its peculiar oviposition mode, which is described in this paper.

Phytophthora capsici (Oomycota: Fungi), a first report from South Africa

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Botany, 1994
Phytophthora capsici Leonian is reported for the first time from South Africa, causing a root rot of paprika (Capsicum annuum L.). A morphological description of the fungus is given, supplemented by restriction enzyme digest analysis to distinguish it from the closely related species P. nicotianae. Pathogenicity to paprika was confirmed.
