Against Opacity [PDF]

open access: yesResearch on Language and Computation, 2007
Compositionality often presupposes a notion of opacity in that the combination of the meanings M and N of the subconstituents of a constituent C into the meaning of C must be blind to the inner structure of M and N. However, for cases where there is no direct 1-1 mapping between (surface) syntactic and semantic structure, opacity seems to be too strong

Long-term evaluation of autologous lamellar corneal grafts for the treatment of deep corneal ulcer in four dogs: a case report

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2019
Autologous lamellar corneal grafts were performed on four dogs with two deep corneal ulcers and two corneal perforations to achieve better visual and aesthetic outcomes.

Iron X-ray Transmission at Temperature Near 150 eV Using the National Ignition Facility: First Measurements and Paths to Uncertainty Reduction

open access: yesAtoms, 2018
Discrepancies exist between theoretical and experimental opacity data for iron, at temperatures 180⁻195 eV and electron densities near 3 × 1022/cm3, relevant to the solar radiative-convective boundary.

Protocolos de uma ideia. Protokolle einer Idee

open access: yesInterAlia, 2023
The contribution draws on experiences in the field of basic education and literacy, gained in the context of two organizations (maiz and das kollektiv, Linz, Austria) of migrant and refugee FLINTAS (WomenLesbiansInterTransAsexuals).

Dust Opacities [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
Dust particles are the dominant source of opacity at (almost) all wavelengths and in (almost) all regions of protoplanetary disks. By this they govern the transport of energy through the disk and thus the thermal structure. Furthermore, their spectral properties determine the low resolution spectral signature observed at infrared wavelengths.

Morphological Exceptions to Vowel Reduction in Central Catalan and the Problem of the Missing Base

open access: yesCatalan Journal of Linguistics, 2016
A certain class of Central Catalan compounds characterized by a first component that lacks a related output word is discussed and analyzed in connection with Vowel Reduction and Destressing.

Photoionization and Opacity

open access: yesAtoms, 2023
Opacity determines radiation transport through material media. In a plasma source, the primary contributors to atomic opacity are bound–bound line transitions and bound-free photoionization into the continuum. We review the theoretical methodology for state-of-the-art photoionization calculations based on the R-matrix method as employed in the Opacity ...

Prospects for top-down derivation

open access: yesCatalan Journal of Linguistics, 2009
This article explores a model of grammar involving top-down derivations, where each step (“splitmerge”) yields an asymmetric pair of elements relevant to the expression of order, information, and grammatical features.

Estimating the Level of Uncertainty in Electron-Impact Excitation and Photoionisation Rates of Low-Ionised Stages of Ni Ions

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
Ni iv lines can be used as diagnostics for temperature and density for various astrophysical objects. In addition, ionization of Ni2+ is one of the causes of the opacity in the interstellar medium.
