Measurement of membrane conductivities using an open-ended coaxial probe

Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry, 1995
In this article, we describe the use of an open-ended coaxial probe to measure the conductivity of an ionic membrane. The technique is simple and it allows measurements to be made quickly. Control of physical parameters, such as the water content of the membrane, is easily achieved as access is only required to one side of the membrane.

Dielectric spectroscopy of Baijiu over 2–20 GHz using an open‐ended coaxial probe

Journal of Food Science, 2021
Abstract The complex electric permittivity of Baijiu (one of the most consumed beverages) is measured over a frequency range of 2 to 20 GHz using a low‐cost open‐ended coaxial probe and a portable microwave analyzer.

GPR absorbing material characterisation using an open-ended coaxial probe

2nd European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP 2007), 2007
RF (radio frequency) absorbing materials are widely used for electromagnetic applications. The uniformity and repeatability are very important for application such as GPR (ground penetrating radar) antenna loading - a method to improve the system performance. There is a demand for a good method to assess the uniformity and reputability of the material.

Permittivity measurements using a short open-ended coaxial line probe

IEEE Microwave and Guided Wave Letters, 1991
Improvements for permittivity measurements with short, open-ended coaxial line probes are achieved by using a more accurate formulation and by adding a finite conductor flange at the aperture of the probe. A conductor flange with a diameter of about 10 times the outer diameter of the coaxial line greatly improves the performance of the coaxial line ...

Open-Ended Coaxial Probe for Dielectric Property Measurements in Sugar Mills

2019 IEEE Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC), 2019
In the Australian sugar industry, the potential output from the mill and the value of a sugarcane crop is dependent on factors such as the concentration of sugar in the juice and its soluble solids content. Current quality assessment techniques used in the industry are labor intensive and time consuming, preventing them from being used for process ...

Precision open-ended coaxial probe for dielectric spectroscopy of breast tissue

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium (IEEE Cat. No.02CH37313), 2003
Research suggests that there exists a significant contrast between the dielectric properties of cancerous and normal breast tissue at microwave frequencies. Open-ended coaxial probes have been extensively used and analyzed in dielectric spectroscopy. There has been an extensive numerical and experimental analysis of these probes to ensure the highest ...

Permittivity measurement of thin liquid layers using open-ended coaxial probes

Measurement Science and Technology, 1996
The composition of a thin emulsion layer backed by air can be determined from permittivity measurements with an open-ended coaxial probe. In this work, techniques for probe design and determination of liquid permittivity are studied. Measurements on thin liquid layers backed by a low-permittivity material show that the measured apparent permittivity ...

FDTD analysis of dielectric properties measurements using open-ended coaxial probes

IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1996 Digest, 2002
We have developed a metallized ceramic open-ended probe for dielectric properties' measurement. We have also been using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) numerical simulations to aid in the calculation of the dielectric properties of thin samples from open-ended probe measurements. We have extended the FDTD simulations to aid in quantifying an error

Admittance models for open ended coaxial probes and their place in dielectric spectroscopy

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1994
Starting from a rigorous formulation for the admittance of an open ended coaxial probe, this paper identifies the simplifying assumptions that are introduced to obtain more practical solutions. The predictions of the models are compared to each other and to experimental data obtained on an independently calibrated experimental set-up.

Calibration Method for Open-Ended Coaxial Probe/Nector Network Analyzer System

MRS Proceedings, 1992
ABSTRACTThe vector network analyzer readily lends itself to a variety of techniques for measuring material properties. The open-ended coaxial probe is one technique that allows swept frequency measurements of permittivity. The open-ended coaxial probe technique requires little or no sample preparation and can make non-destructive measurements on a ...
