A Method to Measure Complex Dielectric Permittivity With Open-Ended Coaxial Probes

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2022
This work presents a new method to measure the complex dielectric permittivity (CDP) variation of materials under test (MUTs) with open-ended coaxial probes. The CDP variation of an MUT is a continuous function of frequency as modeled with various dielectric relaxation models.

Sensitivity investigation of open-ended coaxial probe in skin cancer detection

open access: yesPhysical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine, 2022
Abstract Dielectric properties (DPs), as a physical property, are widely used in real-time identification of normal or tumor tissue in vivo. Open-ended coaxial probe method is one of the most common modalities in measuring DPs. This technique secures its promising potential in early-stage skin cancer diagnosis for its non-invasive merit ...

Dielectric Property Retrieval with Open-Ended Coaxial Probe for Solid Materials

open access: yes2022 IEEE USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting (Joint with AP-S Symposium), 2022
Determining the dielectric properties of materials based on their microwave features is an important research topic in various disciplines and industries. Accurate retrieval of solid material dielectric properties is one of the challenges in non-destructive measurement approaches.

Combined Thickness and Permittivity Measurement of Thin Layers with Open-Ended Coaxial Probes [PDF]

open access: yes2018 12th International Conference on Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Water and Moist Substances (ISEMA), 2018
This paper presents a method to simultaneously determine the thickness and permittivity of thin layers from multi-frequency reflection coefficient measurements using an open-ended coaxial probe. This is achieved by exploiting that the probe becomes radiating at frequencies higher than the probe’s typical operating range.

Permittivity measurement of cementitious materials with an open-ended coaxial probe

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2020
Abstract This study presents a methodology to investigate the complex permittivity of heterogeneous samples like concrete, mortars and cement pastes by using an open-ended coaxial probe. The probe is associated with portable Vector Network Analyser (VNA) allowing in-situ measurements.

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Dielectric characterization of vegetation at L band using an open-ended coaxial probe [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Instrumentation, Methods and Data Systems, 2018
Abstract. Decoupling the integrated microwave signal originating from soil and vegetation remains a challenge for all microwave remote sensing applications. To improve satellite and airborne microwave data products in forest environments, a precise and reliable estimation of the relative permittivity (ε=ε′-iε′′) of trees is required.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Titanium Suboxides Responsible for Electronic Anomaly Near Room Temperature in the Ti3C2Tx MXene

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Our multi‐technique study reveals that the near‐room‐temperature anomaly in Ti3C2Tx MXene is linked to titanium suboxide nanodomains, including Ti3O5, embedded within the MXene host. Their temperature‐driven transformation provides an alternative explanation to solvent‐ and swelling‐based models and offers new insight into the thermally activated ...
