Noise suppression of on-chip mechanical resonators by chaotic coherent feedback

open access: yes, 2015
We propose a method to decouple the nanomechanical resonator in optomechanical systems from the environmental noise by introducing a chaotic coherent feedback loop. We find that the chaotic controller in the feedback loop can modulate the dynamics of the

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Scattering Experiments with Microwave Billiards at an Exceptional Point under Broken Time Reversal Invariance

open access: yes, 2014
Scattering experiments with microwave cavities were performed and the effects of broken time-reversal invariance (TRI), induced by means of a magnetized ferrite placed inside the cavity, on an isolated doublet of nearly degenerate resonances were ...

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Harnessing optical micro-combs for microwave photonics

open access: yes, 2018
In the past decade, optical frequency combs generated by high-Q micro-resonators, or micro-combs, which feature compact device footprints, high energy efficiency, and high-repetition-rates in broad optical bandwidths, have led to a revolution in a wide ...

Photoswitching Conduction in Framework Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This mini‐review summarizes recent advances in state‐of‐the‐art proton and electron conduction in framework materials that can be remotely and reversibly switched on and off by light. It discusses the various photoswitching conduction mechanisms and the strategies employed to enhance photoswitched conductivity.

Varactor-Tuned Dual-Mode Frequency Discriminator for Instantaneous Frequency Measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper a novel varactor-tuned frequency discriminator that makes use of two tunable dual-mode microstrip resonators is demonstrated which doubles the discriminator tuning bandwidth.

Magnetic Control of Chiral Hybridized Phonon Magnetic Moments in Ferrimagnets Fe2‐xZnxMo3O8

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Helicity‐resolved magneto‐Raman spectroscopy reveals magnetic control of chiral phonon magnetic moments in polar ferrimagnet (ZnxFe2−xMo3O₈). Large spontaneous zero‐field phonon splittings, selective phonon–magnon coupling, and asymmetric Zeeman responses demonstrate that phonon chirality is governed by magnon‐phonon coupling and magnetization.

Metallic Triple Beam Resonator with Thick-film Printed Drive and Pickup

open access: yes, 2003
A triple beam resonator fabricated in 430S17 stainless steel with thick-film piezoelectric elements to drive and detect the vibrations is presented. The resonator substrate was fabricated by a simultaneous, double-sided photochemical etching technique ...

Chemoselective Sequential Polymerization: An Approach Toward Mixed Plastic Waste Recycling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological protein metabolism, this study demonstrates the closed‐loop recycling of mixed synthetic polymers via ring‐closing depolymerization followed by a chemoselective sequential polymerizations process. The approach recovers pure polymers from mixed feedstocks, even in multilayer formats, highlighting a promising strategy to overcome a
