From Open Access to Open Science: The Path From Scientific Reality to Open Scientific Communication

open access: yesSAGE Open, 2020
Although opening up of research is considered an appropriate and trend-setting model for future scientific communication, it can still be difficult to put open science into practice. How open and transparent can a scientific work be?

Open Letter(s) on Open Access

open access: yesO, Wind, if Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?, 2019
It is well known that one major obstacle to achieving open access (OA) is misunderstanding among stakeholders; some say it is the biggest problem of all. Throughout the supply-chain of producing and consuming scholarly literature, many participants—especially authors—understand the broader objectives of OA but not the practical steps they can take to ...

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

OpenDose: Open-Access Resource for Nuclear Medicine Dosimetry

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Medicine, 2020
Radiopharmaceutical dosimetry depends on the localization in space and time of radioactive sources and requires the estimation of the amount of energy emitted by the sources deposited within targets.

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...

Paying for Open Access

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2020
Open access (OA) publishing upends the traditional business model in scientific publishing by requiring authors instead of readers to pay for the publishing-related costs. In this paper, we aim to elicit the willingness to pay (WTP) of authors for open access publishing.

Geographic variation in walking activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examined whether there is geographic variation in field populations, focusing on the moving activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum. Results showed significant differences in moving activity among field populations but no correlation with latitude or meteorological factors.

Anthropology and Open Access [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
While still largely ignored by many anthropologists, open access (OA) has been a confusing and volatile center around which a wide range of contentious debates and vexing leadership dilemmas orbit.
