General Approach to Distribute Waste Rocks Between Dump Sites in Open Cast Mines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In most surface mining operations, waste rocks are removed from the pit and deposited on adjacent areas. Mine optimization is a key step in the viability of a surface mining project.

Mapping Multi‐Stakeholder Engagement: A Q Methodology in a Regional Project Management Scenario

open access: yesStrategic Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Research on project management describes the essence of projects involving multiple stakeholders, stressing the value derived from diverse work practices. However, this underestimates issues of counterproductive disagreements associated with diverse groups participating in a project.

Coal Mining as a Driver of Land Use and Land Cover Change and Degradation: A Case in Moatize City, Mozambique

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Coal remains a major global energy source despite ongoing environmental controversies, particularly, regarding climate change and landscape transformation. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of land use and land cover (LULC) in the Moatize Coal Basin (MCB), Mozambique, between 1990 and 2024, with a specific focus on land ...

Evaluating Erosional Stability of Reconstructed Mine Landscapes Using Landform Evolution Models: Parameterisation and Decadal‐Scale Erosion Assessment

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ensuring the long‐term erosional stability of post‐mining landforms remains a major challenge in open‐pit mining. Reconstructed landscapes must support the agreed post‐mining land use, such as cattle grazing in the Hunter region of southeastern Australia, requiring stable pasture and minimal soil loss.

Study on safety coal pillar mining and internal dump space optimization of adjacent mining area in turning period in Huolinhe North Open-pit Coal Mine

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2023
Based on the mining conditions and development status of Huolinhe North Open-pit Coal Mine, in view of the problems of adjacent coal mining area steering, coal column mining in the mining section, tight of the inner dump space, the stability of composite slope of stope-inner dump is analyzed to solve the potential slope safety problems caused by the ...

Sustainable Metal Recovery From E‐Waste: Exploring Greener Leachates in Hydrometallurgical Processes

open access: yesMetalMat, EarlyView.
Recycling of electronic waste to synthesize valuable metals using green leachate. ABSTRACT The accumulation of electronic waste (e‐waste) poses environmental hazards and leads to the loss of valuable metals such as gold, silver, copper, and rare earth elements.

Optimizing Household Waste Recycling Centre Network Reorganization in Hampshire

open access: yesNetworks, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Local councils across the UK are facing sustained financial pressures, and Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are being increasingly considered for closure to reduce expenditure. In 2024, Hampshire County Council, which operates the largest HWRC network in the UK, proposed closing either five or twelve existing sites.

Determination of long-term deformation behaviours with InSAR data at a dump site of an open-pit coal mine in Turkey

open access: yes
Dump sites with broken overburden layers in surface mines have the risk of instability due to their loose bulk structures. In this study, deformations at a dump site of the Kangal/Kalburc,ayiri open-pit coal mine and their long-term behaviours were ...

Effect of population reinforcement method, site, and plant characteristics on early establishment of the rare endemic plant species Minuartia smejkalii

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Many habitat‐specialist plant species have been endangered by fragmentation or destruction of their habitats. Minuartia smejkalii is a serpentinophyte endemic to the Czech Republic. It is highly threatened by recent habitat destruction and fragmentation, calling for effective conservation measures.
